Starting another thread cause I didn't want to capitalize Res0nat0rs htpc thread. I was about to go for the Drobo Pro but shit $1400 (hard drives extra) just to store media seems a little too much. I was going to go for the standard Drobo II ($345 with a $30 mail in rebate on Newegg) until I noticed a Drobo S for $799. It's a 5 bay (vs. 4 bay on the Drobo II) and has a faster processor, updated RAID Software as well as eSata port. Unfortunately, since the device appears to be a brand new release, there are hardly any reviews out there (especially those covering connectivity performance). Wondering if anyone has ready anything about it.

The last time there was so much destruction, Obi Wan Kenobi had to take a seat on the Falcon after the Death Star said "hi and bye" to Leia's homeworld.
I got pics and video. But I will upload them in the morning. I need to smoke this nice phat joint and just close my eyes and replay the amazingness in my head.Comment

Re: Drobo
That article was a very interesting read. Unfortunately, it is true and the resulting disappointment from reading it has been further accentuated by the person from Data Robotics posting in the comments section who seems to be stating a (rather mis-informed) personal opinion on the limited use of the Drobo 1, 2 and Drobo S rather than presenting a point of view that could have been derived from a well polled / researched and documented fact of the true potential target market that the new Drobo S can have.
There is an undeniable reality for an ever-growing demand of larger and larger storage drives. There's only so many megabytes (and gigabytes) worth of word, excel, power-point, PSDs, SQL Databases and other files used on a daily basis, that corporate America realistically creates and needs to save. Backing up terabytes is what will drive the mass population of media-hungry prospective clients towards the Drobo S.
As more and more households continue to be "wired" for media delivery across many rooms of a 21st century home, this is the population that is seeking to implement a relatively low cost and safe backup solution that caters to delivering their MP3 / DVR (and other media related) content in high speed and "on the fly" and is the place where the eSata Drobo S will SHINE.
While USB 2.0 and Firewire are the biggest bottlenecks for Drobo 2, the $700 price tag for the Drobo S has today inherited the self-imposing limitation/restriction for increasing Drobo's sales potential.www.mjwebhosting.com
