I feel the same, need a change. been on full paid leave for 5 months waiting for a project to start. No news of when they will start it. I am thinking of asking them to retrench me so i can find something else.

I came to Kuwait 10 months ago to take a college job. Job ain't bad, money's good, but Sharia Law sucks. All I want is a fucking beer of an evening

Well I'm off to Shanghai in a couple of weeks after just shy of 2 years in Australia. Same industry but a huge challenging role, gonna try to stick it out for 2 years in a country I've never even considered visiting. Looking forward to travelling now that I am nearer to the rest of the world.

My dad has been over in Kuwait on a base now for about 5 years, used to work for the Navy but now is a contractor doing the stuff he did for the Navy. Tried talking me into gettting a job over there before I got this decent paying one since it pays well.

What do you do? Sounds like you are getting to goto some cool places. My old roommate from college used to work for GE over in Shanghai and it sounded like it would be a great place to live for a while, would have really liked to have seen that.

I work in advertising. After my time in China I'm gonna try Europe, hopefully the world economy would've improved by then! The travelling isn't so much part of the job though, just going where the opportunity is.

If manual labor paid well and I could build a career doing it, I'd much rather be digging a trench. At least I'd be active.

+1. I have a mate at work who lives on a farm but also does this day job as an accountant in our office so he can get his toys.

Yeah that is very cool. I guess I could try and do the same, I don't know if I have the balls to pick up and move. I don't care about meeting new people/places or anything like that, it's just being worried about the money is the main thing and trying to put some away when the next round of the world crashing down happens

Yeah it's tough for sure unless you're already in a line of work that requires constant travelling (but that still means you have a home base).

I'm getting cold feet now tbh, thinking of packing up and selling everything for the move. And I am not a big fan of change nor meeting people either. But fuck it, if I don't do it now, I'll never do it.

I'm used to moving around since my dad was in the military growing up so actually I don't mind that, and would like to do it again. Driving around Europe a couple of years ago was so great. I don't mind moving away from the family either since I'm used to it. Living here where I do now is actually the longest I've lived in any one place in my live. I still am not dating anyone serious and could split from the friends I have here and still be ok with it, just to give checking out something completely new a chance. It's just making sure I don't end up working as a cook in a diner in 5 years because I'm broke is the issue.

All I know is that I work in the area of mental health, and I wouldn't change my job for anything...
