    Has my Ipod had it??

I have the 60GB video iPod, puchased in 2003/04 time.

The actual iPod is working fine, it's the headphones that are playing up.

Recently the sound was only coming through sporadically, and would change if I flicked the headphone lead or swivelled it. I thought it was just the headphones themselves, but it's not - I've tried 3 sets now and all of them have the same problem. So I'm guessing it's the actual headphone socket on the iPod.

Is it knackered? Can't imagine they can repair that particular part, and I'm way out of warranty anyway.

It will still be used as I play it on my iPod speakers at home and through the radio in the car, but I'll be gutted if I can't listen to tunes on headphones?

First id go to the apple store if they can do something about it if not, there are plenty of DIY guides in order to fix your problem.
I used to work as an Apple Technician and this is a common problem, its usually the headphone jack that goes bust, if it doesnt fix it youll have to replace the logic board.
I think the part you need is this one:http://www.ifixit.com/iPod-Parts/iPo...itch/IF195-015

opening an ipod is a PITA but fixing it yourself is much cheaper and not that hard after youve opened it.
      Dont panic, its organic.

it works ok on your home system and everything else, just not headphones? that is really bizarre. my ipod uses the headphone socket for all those, so just curious.

^ Yep, I use the wide socket in the bottom when listening in the car and at home. The problem is definitely with the headphone socket itself.

            Cheers for the input guys.

That guide is really detailed but I dont know if I would have the bottle to try it myself! I just know I'd screw it up. Will locate my nearest Apple store to see if they can fix it.

Re: Has my Ipod had it??

For anyone interested, I found a place that does it:

Seems to be located in the Brighton area. You diagnose the problem and they give you a quote. If you want the work done you pay upfront and send the iPod to them, they repair and return.

I was a bit wary but decided to take the plunge. Paid my £40, sent it off on Wednesday. They e-mailed today to say they received it, and 2 hours later e-mailed again to say that they had fixed it and that it was on the way back. So happy with that!
