2002 was the biggest slump in clubbing history. Empty clubs and some piss poor music. It was a real strange time for clubbing and music. There where was a great interview with Hernan about it a few years ago, Nick Warren touched on this in his Reykjavik Global Underground, if you remember he said he doubted he would ever do another mix CD. Some also wrote great article on GU with the quote "How Did We Get From Northern Exposure To Cowpander In Such A Short Space Of Time". It wasn't all bad one of my favorite sets ever is from 2002, Nick Warrens GU was one of the best CDs of the decade. But if you have to look back over the last 20 years 2002 was one of the poorest. I don't think it got back on its feet till 2004

Chunky hates the Delta Heavy EM. I can't trust his opinion.

The reason I used 2002 as an example was because I think that was the last year of prog as I know it. Sasha did some amazing sets that year, even if he played the same records in every one of them. His Digweed guest mix from August 2002 is still my favorite mix of his after the 2000 essential mix.

No i am not talking about that EM but do you remember his Beirut set?

What i am trying to say that scene has lost its 'spiritual' vibe. Most of tunes these days are darker and more down to earth tunes...
And i personaly don't get that trippy feeling that i use to get listening to prog. Ibelieve that the best period in progressive house music was 1996-1999. From then until now the music has taken a bad turn - with exceptions of course(maybe it has to do with all the shit that goes on in the wold or from the kind of drugs that producers are using-more coke in our days).
But i think that i am starting to see a light again...

Agree 100% mate. I think his best of 2009 Transitions is amazing and showcases the quality of the music from 2009. And Simon is right you can only play the music thats out there. Late 2004-2005 for example. That garbage was all people were putting out. Nothing worse than that through most of 2006 for me.

Sorry guys - but the problem these days is that no-one moves on ... cherish the "classic" years but move out of your bubbles.

FFS ... none of those producers are still either (i) here or (ii) still making them same music.

The most progressive tracks this year were from Union Jack ... guess which DJ was all over it ?

The best label put out some massive tracks .... guess whose that was ?

Plus that DJ kept playing newly structured sets throughout the year, and plays the long extended sets that proper DJ's still do .. if they can ... trying to recall his name.
                        sigpicSimonR

This release was mastered direct from vinyl at the request of the DJ and as such features natural sound characteristics of this medium such as record surface noise.

Are you fucking kidding me? 2002 the poorest over the last 20 years? How exactly has it picked back up after 2004? I'd fucking love to hear some examples.

The Delta Heavy Tour was really the last year of Sasha and Digweed's prime. There was some outstanding tracks that came out in 2002. That was pretty much the last year before trance and progressive became generic formulaic shit. All the prog DJs have gone to shit since 2004 including the likes of Sasha and Digweed with the electro fart house crap in 2005, and the generic minimal/tech house shit from 2006 to 2008, luckily Sasha has only just recently started to pick it back up.
