HARRY AVERS presents
Noice! - Episode 97 Laurie Neil (Glitch, Edinburgh)
As I promised... the next few weeks we will be sharing with you some rising stars out of the Great Country of Scotland. we feel that these Cats have a lot of potential and expect big things from them. first up... please give a NOICE! welcome to Laurie Neil. A familiar story for you I?m sure? After my first ?mates? holiday at the age of 17 to Ibiza, I instantly fell in love with the people, the parties and the music. I promptly bought desks and started spending all my hard earned cash on vinyl. A few years on and I?m still mad for records (no vinyl of-course!). I won the Scottish Open Decks DJ competition, based in Edinburgh, in November 2007 and have been playing out regularly since then. To date I have been resident at several Edinburgh club nights including Cream and Flux in 2008. 2009 saw me playing more gigs and competitions. I entered a DJ completion for Scotland?s first dedicated Dance Music festival, EH1. From 400 entrants, I finished in the final 6. I?ve promoted and ran 2 club nights since the first competition ? HOOKED & GLITCH. HOOKED runs no more due to the venue closing. My efforts are now focused on GLITCH. It proves a platform for me to play the music I love to the clubbers of Edinburgh. It has also allowed to give some exposure to other local DJs that I respect and admire. I?m building the night steadily and slowly, looking to book some bigger guests. I?ve also this year (2010) secured a gig at Edinburgh?s, and one of Scotland?s leading club nights, the mighty Musika. I can?t say which, but one of Glasgow?s bigger nights has shown some interest too also ? I?m looking to develop this in the next few months. I?ve been learning the dark art which is production for a number of years now and am looking have my first record released this year. I like to play with some energy in my sets, always keeping the vibe pretty uplifting. I?m playing more house of late but also play Tech-house and techno for tougher floors. I?m loving the sounds coming from Amsterdam, Buzzin? Fly, 2020 Vision, dirtybird, Mihalas Safras, Tim Green, Julien Chaptal, San Francisco, Simon Baker, Cocoon. This year I hope to continue building GLITCH steadily; promote myself further a-field out-with Edinburgh and all over Scotland and continue learning all I can about dance-floors and the people who grace them at the weekend. ?
