          Re: Shuttle Launch - Sunday

I've seen two shuttle launches, one in the dark and one during the day. The night one was so much better since you can see this bright flash of light during the launch. However, it's not just about "seeing" but also about "feeling". You have to be there in person to experience the ground-shaking rumble that would put the world's best sound system to shame. Since shuttles will be phased out soon, see them while you still can!

Here are some my pictures from Kennedy Point Park in Titusville, 20kilometres/12miles from the launch pad.

Awesome photos, the closest we get to this kind of things is microlights taking off

It's the launch pad they're currently using -- they put a ton of floodlights on it once the shuttle is out there. The orange one at left is a similar launch pad, with only its normal lights.

                    Re: Shuttle Launch - Sunday

One time we got tickets to go onto KSC for a night launch. It was definitely something I will never forget. I can watch the shuttle (or any rocket) go up from my house. But being on the grounds and having it go up (and at night) was just amazing. It ranks up there with the very first shuttle landing at KSC when I was a kid. My dad took us down there and we were on the bridge and it flew right over us. Back then I thought it was cool to see that, but now with the shuttle program winding down it means a lot more.
