Featuring Crazy P, Joy Orbison, Laidback Luke & Diplo...
Young Brightonian Michael Morph provides this week’s exclusive DJ mix, offering up 60 minutes of breaks, electro, house, techno and all manner of other bits and pieces – much like the varied styles and genre-hopping that inhabits Morph’s own solo work.
Originally spinning tunes and producing in and around Nottingham, Morph relocated to the sunny shores of Brighton to permanently pursue his musical ambitions, which proved a rather healthy career move when he signed to the Pure Mint label.
Featured on Morph’s DJ mix are a series of intriguing electronic collaborations, including an off-kilter house track from Claude VonStroke and Justin Martin, and a Black Noise remix of ‘Hey!’ from Laidback Luke and renowned reworker Diplo.
About halfway in, things take a very appealing turn towards grimy electro hip hop via Yo! Majesty (guesting on one of Morph’s tracks) before a quick burst of Busta Rhymes. Also getting a look-in are disco-house act Crazy P, whom Morph has a wonderfully random connection with, having previously sold gas door-to-door with the group’s founder Chris Todd. As you do. And there are, of course, several tracks by Morph himself, including a remix of ‘Go Cat Go’, the first single to be taken from his upcoming album.
