Featuring Buju Banton, Schlachthofbronx, Buraka Som Sistema...
Montreal dancehall sensation Poirier sets up this week’s Clash DJ podcast, with his aptly named ‘Karnival mix’.
A name on everyone’s lips of late, Poirier (formerly known also by his first name, Ghislain) has won over all and sundry with his bass and beat-heavy genre mashing, showcased neatly in his mix for Clash.
Combining grime, hip hop and all manner of beats with dancehall and hard ragga, Poirier’s 45 minutes are unforgiving, in-your-face and completely irresistible. There’s also plenty of heavy bass flavours here, as if you didn’t know already.
Included in this deep and dirty selection are everybody’s favourite Kuduro gurus Buraka Som Sistema, Jamaican dancehall and reggae legend Buju Banton, and garage producer MJ Cole.
Other highlights include a re-edit of Soca artist Bunji Garlin’s ‘Fire Fe Dem’ set on top of surf anthem ‘Wipe Out’ and the glorious carnival vibes of Rick T’s ‘Like a Jumbie’ reworked by Poirier – a fitting way to close a mix from the man who’s acquired the nickname ‘king of the bounce’. It’s not hard to see why…
