    FAO New Yorkers

Wife and I are looking to head up that way for a weekend in May -- she's never been before, so we'd like to really do it up right.

Although I've spent a ton of time in Manhattan, I haven't had occasion to be in the City for at least a year and am therefore totally out of the loop. What are some of the top restaurants in the area, places that are really only-in-NYC sort of experiences? We'd like to visit some places that offer tasting menus from really well-known chefs.

Also, there are a few places I had in mind as options already, so if anyone has any input on them, I'd love to hear it. They would include:

    WD-50
    Morimoto
    Mesa Grill or Bar Americain

    Thoughts?

    fun!!

definitely check out apotheke for a drink or 2...if you can find it. you won't soon forget your experience!

Also, since you have some time, if you want, check out the calender on the Carnegie Hall website... You can get a pretty good deal on tickets usually, and it will be a nice date for you two.

It was fun while it lasted...

Another tip by a native new yorker and old college roommate of mine was to check out the Botanical Gardens during the day... right now they have an Orchid Exhibit ...

one of my favorite places. there is no place more unique than this.
Please Don't Tell is an award winning New York City cocktail bar hidden behind the phone booth in famed East Village hot dog joint, Crif Dogs.

they have the most unique drinks and food alike. expect to wait a while. if you need help finding it shoot me a tell on the boards.

if you're in the mood for a college type place with lots of tvs, people, and 1980s music videos

please keep in mind these are just interesting places by no means are they 5/5 star places with top chiefs.

^Do you enter that first place via phone booth?

I've camped in Joshua Tree, never been to this bar though nice name

Another idea would be to take a ferry at night around the city, i've always wanted to do that, but haven't... it's inexpensive and imaginably provides a great view!

yep! you enter via a phone booth! hahaha! first time going there i thought it was the most bizarre thing ever. it'd be most comparable to alice in wonderland. you go through a door and the entire place is filled with oddities.
