Ableton + Snow Leopard = loads of crashes

Just wondering if anyone has any info on this problem which seems to have plagued a lot of people.

Since upgrading to Mac OS Snow Leopard, Ableton seems to be almost unusable. I'm still on Live 6 and it crashes if you double click on a track to import it in, (but not if you drag them in), it crashes when you warp tracks and altogether seems downright unstable.
Have been looking online and in the Ableton forums but not having much luck. It looks like version 7 is also quite unstable for some and they don't even guarantee it works with version 8. Ideally I'd rather not upgrade to version 8. Version 6 does everything I need it to do.

Anyone know if there are any patches or fixes out there or got any more info on whats going wrong ?

I think you will just have to wait. Ableton is currently working on reliability instead of new features. Are they still supporting 6?

I have 8/Snow Leopard and it does crash occasionally. It's very disturbing, considering how much the program cost me. Luckily I use it at home. I can't imagine how embarrassing it would be to crash at a gig.

This might point you to more on the situation.

(CC) Pikturewerk. Minor releases and bugfixes don’t generally make CDM news, but this is a special occasion. Ableton founder and CEO Gerhard Behles got everyone’s attention this week by making the rare public announcement that Ableton’s development team was temporarily halting work on new features to focus on fixing bugs. That has prompted some seriously […]

Re: Ableton + Snow Leopard = loads of crashes

I don't think they are still supporting v6. There is some support for v7 still I think but Ableton doesn't seem to work well with 6 or 7 and its not perfect with 8, from what I have read. Don't want to have to upgrade to 8 or worse, go back to Leopard but might have to do one or the other to get it resolved.

Yeah, I probably posted in the wrong forum but am still new here and learning the ropes etc

Might be obvious, Al. But have you clean installed Snow Leopard or upgraded to it?

from what i gathered, sasha was going away from ableton cos they werent addressing the bugs that were in the software... jammy cunts.

expensive shit like that should at least be reliable. even if macs are just pcs with linux nowadays.

I've upgraded to Snow Leopard rather than a clean install and yes, the OS is fully updated with the latest software updates.

Does it make a difference Simon ?

Pipey - this really wouldn't surprise me. I think there are a lot of frustrated users who have had similar problems to me. I don't play out live on it (well I have twice) but if I did, this would be a disaster. Its unusable in a live environment. Its gonna be annoying enought as it is to pay more than £100 for a software upgrade to 8 that is still unstable by all accounts.
