I've upgraded to Snow Leopard rather than a clean install and yes, the OS is fully updated with the latest software updates.

Does it make a difference Simon ?

No idea tbh with you mate. Dunno how the Apple upgrade process works. I know with Windows a clean install is the way to go. Or is Snow Leopard the Mac equivalent of a service pack?

Actually, I think there is only one way to upgrade from the disc I have. Its a system upgrade (not a service pack) but not a major upgrade like Tiger or Leopard was.

I think its looks like I will have more luck by upgrading my copy of Ableton. Will probably have to go all the way from 6 to 8 though, which may cost a small fortune.
