    Default Forum Sorting

Hey guys! I've been trying to think of a way to help everyone deal with the heavy traffic we get in here. I think the reason most of us come here is to grab some new music, but it's usually a pretty time-consuming task to come in here and find all of the fresh stuff. Between the frequent thread bumps to page one and the multiple-sets-per-artist problem which constantly makes us (me?) second-guess if we've already downloaded something, using this place can become a real pain!

I just made a change which I think will make this place better for everyone. The default forum sort order has been changed to show threads by the time of its creation, rather than by the time of the last post. The benefit here is that with any visit to P&R, all of the sets that have been posted since you last visited will be at the very top of the first page. Going on vacation for the weekend? No sweat! Just keep browsing the pages backward until you find the last post since you left.

Once you have finished going through all of the new music since your last visit, just click on the "Last Post" header column. This will sort the forum by the time of each thread's last reply (how it has been until today), and you can continue with reading all the comments on the sets that have been posted.

I hope this doesn't confuse everyone too much! I think it's going to make this place much more user-friendly.

    Adam

      Re: Default Forum Sorting

i like it! i went thru all the new posts v quickly - then it went back to previously bumped threads.

Can we switch between forum sort preferences?

also - my personal pref would be to place those podbot posts back into bump order - as they clutter up the presentation

      cant please everyone! thanks pickle

edit: do you actually have to log out of [ms] and log back in for it to re-sort? as opposed to shuffle around other parts of [ms] then to come back to p+r later?

You don't need to log out; just visit a different forum on ms then return to P&R

I realize this won't please everyone, but I'd like everyone to try it for a few weeks to see where it takes you

Updates of Megathreads won't show at the top, though.

Is that the end of the ambient thread then?

It was started a good while back, so it's probably on Page 176 or something.

I think it's a cool idea... In other words, the only thing thats really changed is you can now sort the posts by up to date origination if you choose to.

                        Otherwise, it's the same, right?

                        Thank you pickle!

Yeah, the content is still there. The only difference is the default sort is by creation date until you sort it by last post. It's one extra click, which allows you to see the way you're used to and only the new shit

I usually want to know what others are saying, rather than just the most recent thread. So it doesn't really work for me. But so long as I can change it it doesn't really matter. I guess people will choose what works best for them Thanks for thinking of us anyway !!
