^ Agree with the comments above - they have tried new dj's and I reckon they have bombed - Felix, Freeland, Plump DJ's which have all done nothing really
They really haven't done to well with their new blood in the last few years. I think they would of done better if they had given Nic Fanciulli a proper GU. They should of tried to get one out of Zabiela. The Nubreed and their other series they started have just been a complete waste of time.

You didn't think the Fanciulli was any good? I liked it better than the last two Renaissance cd's he put out.
And while I wasn't crazy about the Jim Rivers Nubreed, the Sultan one made up for it.
I don't think they could have gotten Zabiela to do a GU as he's in pretty tight with Renaissance right now.
I haven't actually listened to the Fanciulli GU. I liked his Renaissance CDs. I think from a branding point of view they would of sold more copies had he done a Locations GU and I think it would of done GU and Nic's profile a lot more than L&B Felix, Plump etc releases. I think as releases go Renaissance do far better at branding their product. The artists get to do releases that have their own individual brand Therapy Sessions, Everybody, Transitions, Sequential etc but they all seem to feel like more of a collection than the GU releases. I've bought a lot more Renaissance CD's in the last few years from artists I know little about and been a lot more satisfied with my purchases. The Sandy Rivera is probably the best example of this, I remember putting that CD on and feeling like Id been slapped round the face with a big raw salmon.
Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised by the Sandy Rivera Renaissance, and the Renaissance series seems to have a very logical flow with each addition to their series. The Gui Boratto and M.A.N.D.Y. releases I wouldn't have figured to be logical follow ups to Danny Howell's contribution, but when I've played all three back to back, they're nearly seamless.
Like you said, GU seems very jarring with each addition to the series, Nick Warren's Lima, followed by Lavelle in Bangkok and then Carl Cox in Black Rock just doesn't feel like contributions in the series like they did before - they feel more like they're individual efforts with the GU label just putting their name on it.
oh my god... am I the only one not excited at all about this ?
We need new people in the scene, 'nuff with the dinosaurs ... !! so many great djs around and yet GU thinks we need to have ANOTHER seaman cd? Isnt 3 enough ?
I mean i like the guy and all, but.... come on !
:S
it's not as if he's done the most GU's
they've all been quality, so what's the big deal?
would you complain if diggers or sasha did another GU?
who would you prefer to see do one?
at the end of the day, if it's a good compilation, does it really matter if it's GU, Renaissance or Balance etc?
Haven't listened to a GU for ages, last was Nick Warren's. But was the Warren GU good because it was GU? Or was it simply Warren? Why should Diggers do another GU when he has Transitions? Sydney, Hong Kong, LA marked an era of sound for him which he has moved on from. The good ol' GU progressive sound is dead, if Diggers brought what he's playing these days to GU, it'd sound so disconnected, better off he produce another Transitions or Balance. Actually he's never done a Fabric, I think Diggers should put his stamp on that series.
Used to trust GU to deliver the goods, now I listen to them if I think the DJ is worth the time. Seriously between all the other comps and live sets, GU must be so coked up their asses to think they still serve a niche.

Oh. My. God. James absolutely obliterated the island tonight. The last time there was so much destruction, Obi Wan Kenobi had to take a seat on the Falcon after the Death Star said "hi and bye" to Leia's homeworld.
I got pics and video. But I will upload them in the morning. I need to smoke this nice phat joint and just close my eyes and replay the amazingness in my head.
