    Re: Johnny Digweed

One of the first tracks I ever heard that got me into electronic music was Schiller - Ruhe (Humate Mix). Talk about a spoiler! Eventually a friend of mine let me borrow Digweeds Northern Exposure cds and Hernan Cattaneo's South America. I used to love the brand of trance Oakenfold & Tiesto but i got out of it after I heard those cds. Looking back on it though Oakenfold played some great trance...

that tune is always the first one that comes to mind when i think of this gu, i love the vocals and it is mixed in just right. can you belive this mix is almost a decade old already? time flies by too quick, i remember the good times that were had the first times i heard this disc and went to check out oakey live because of it with friends. nice to think someone else likes it too

the beginning of disc 2 with the dnb tracks is also fantastic. the talisman and hudson - leaving planet earth and krystal - burning flame tracks are great also.

haha that talisman & hudson track is my other favorite on there.
glad to know someone else who appreciates those tunes like i do.

first time i heard these was after a once well known annual festival in FL called Zen. the year was 1998.

                  still enjoy both discs.

Oakey was fantastic at Cream and will always be a bit of a hero up in Liverpool - up until 1999 he was playing a lot of the tracks that Sasha and Digweed played: from 2000 onwards S & D took it darker and their progressive sounds started to stand them apart. S & D continued to progress (although I still feel that Sasha played better music up until 2004 - the stuff he was playing last year was very uninspiring at times).

Hernan and Oakenfold was always a good bill, I caught them at Heaven in 2003 when Hernan opened to 6 people, but built up a fantastic set as the place packed up to breaking point ! Things change - the likes of Martin Garcia and Luke Fair offer a fresher sound in their own unique ways - its a shame that Sasha, Digweed & Hernan don't give them the exposure they need by offering decent tours/bills.

Those 1999 EM's still stand up now (even if the Perfecto sound is dated) - and the Goa mix was sounding good last night.

BTW - if anyone has Oakeys 1995 Ku (Ibiza) mix please let me know.

This release was mastered direct from vinyl at the request of the DJ and as such features natural sound characteristics of this medium such as record surface noise.
