Buying a Portable HD Camcorder

A friend of my mine as requested suggestions for a portable camcorder. I have basically narrowed it down to these 2 -

What do you guys think? Any more suggestions? The key being the "portability" factor and preferably not over $250

Have you tried those out in a store? I can't imagine they really record in HD or have adequate sound recording... but I could be wrong.

Whatever he ends up getting, just make sure he's used it first, and actually looked at the recording quality on his own tv.
