now that you've invented hotlinking / device sharing between multiple cdjs, wouldn't it be easy to invent some kind of usb device that would integrate a laptop as music source into the loop?
this idea just went through my mind, had to share it
Can you be more descriptive please? I cannot make sense of what you are talking about. Possibly because I have the feeling that what you want to describe, already exists with one way or another...
well... i was thinking of some kind of device which would hook up your computer with two or more latest-generation cdjs (the ones with the "link" feature), and then you'd be spinning your mp3s off the computer hard drive.
doesn't exactly exist to my knowledge. one could use a dvs with two cdjs, or one could copy all music to an additional usb drive of some kind and plug that into the newest generation cdjs (i.e. the 2000s with their "link" feature). what's closest to this is probably plugging 2 cdjs to you computer via usb and using them as controllers for your dj software.
the advantage is: you wouldn't need a complete djing solution on the laptop, just some software to make your files available. you'd simply make use of the hardware at hand. this could be cheaper than any of the above...
i know of that feature, but i don't wanna unscrew my laptop, take out the hd, just to be able to connect it to my cdjs
This doesn't make sense

No need to unscrew anything from your laptop for getting linked with a CDJ2K.
All required connections are made via Ethernet or USB (depending on the source or setup you want to have e.t.c.).
you mean, i could get an ethernet switch, connect two cdj-2000 and my laptop to it and i will be able to access the files on my laptop? that sounds too easy to be true
Either hub it or if using just 2, connect to one deck. USB port is bi-directional.
The whole concept is to have one deck attached to your digital music source, and then all subsequent connected decks (up to 4) be able to also access things via networking.
Virtual DJing also would be allowed to play off of your laptop without needing timecoded CD's...slight exception is Serato as you would still need the box, but don't have to use the CD's...

If pioneer introduced such a thing...wouldn't that basically be the end of CDJ's...because I can already carry all my music on a laptop, so if you really wanna get down to brass tacks, do we really need cdj's anymore. I personally would like to have a pair of them, as I love spinning on cd's and find computer dj'ing to be pretty boring...other than Hawtin.
