Tax Cuts and other free market reforms are paying off in three central European economies slated to join the European Union on May 10, 2005. Stock indexes in the Czech Republic and Hungary are each up more than 50% in the past year. Poland is up 21%. The top twenty central European companies by market value are up 39%. In contrast, German and French stocks are up about 8%. The Polish economy is expected to grow 5% this year, while Old Europe growth is coming in les than 2%. Of course, EU bureaucrats want to stop New Europe from competing with lower tax rates. Sclertic Old Europe wants to harmonize at higher tax rates. New Europe understands political as well as economic freedom, and hopefully will fight Chirac and company on both counts.

They're so afraid of the new economic forces that have come into play now...I think it's a great opportunity for Europe. The high growth rates are a natural result of the optimism on the market, but they should take advantage of that. Europe should look at the opportunities for growth, not threats.Blowkick visual & graphic design - No Civilization. Now With Broadband.

Europe will soon become what america was in the eighties. A giant superpower. Now they just need to get rid of the royal family of england. Those people just make that entire country look bad.
Hell look at the difference in the euro and the dollar.Comment

Someone said that the moment the Euro hits $1,40 the dollar will be traded in for the euro worldwide...that is not good news for the US.
Maybe it won't be happening that bluntly, but 1.5 year ago when I was in Ghana, West-Africa, I already noticed that they really appreciate Euro's above dollars there. Was quite surpised, but it sketches the trust there is in the euro worldwide...Blowkick visual & graphic design - No Civilization. Now With Broadband.

The numbers look good, and there is no denying that the EU is redefining what a gloabl community means and can do. But what about national loss of sovereignty, and the "democratic deficit"? The EU is a radial redefintion of a regional organization and has produced amazing economic and politcal results in a short period of time. But what does that mean when the people do not have any say in what the european council and european commissson does? Will the forces of integration impinge on "traditional "state to the point where the lack of democratic values begin to be contested? as an american, the EU is the benchmark to what a regional community can do, but is the reallienment sovereinty undermine what a nation-state is?
