That oil is natural. Like free-range chicken, non-genetically engineered corn, or whatever. I hear people constantly rant on and on about how oil is evil and dirty and so on.....

...but, isn't it a natural part of this planet?

If I may make a comparison, many social conservatives of the jesus variety say that god gave us this earth and that this earth is good.....except for marijuana which is evil and makes you do crazy things. (it's not a perfect parallel, but I think it's close to what gaianists believe in reference to oil).

So very very sad. Man kind is ruining this great planet

According to the American College Dictionary, pollution is defined as: to make foul or unclean; dirty.

I mean you have to admit that it is kind of funny that the biggest oil spill in history happened on Earth Day.

now there saying with the gulf stream that the oil slick should hit miami, the keys and the florida atlantic coast....what an utter mess. i find this just appauling. i cant stand to even see it on tv.

Yeah and perhaps we would have been better off if it was left as part of the planet. But stable doors and all that . That's all a bit silly actually It's what we do with oil that makes it all the bad things , if we left it in the ground it would just fine . Bit like uranium.

The religion of environmentalism. The Church of Green. The people that think the planet has a 'consciousness' and so forth. The people who think man is inherently evil and that 'the earth would be better of if we were all dead" or who otherwise want to eliminate man's rise above living without any use of manufactured goods, etc.... (people who dress up like the Na'vi, or who had deep emotional connections with that ficticious group of people).

I'm wondering out loud here, but I don't think there is any way they can close this hole, except for....













....a small-yield nuclear bomb detonated just over the hole, sealing it up.


Absent that, it's going to be at the very least, WEEKS before anything can be done. And that's too long to wait at this point (on a best-case scenario).

Consider for a moment that BP + Contractors best equipment was utterly destroyed by the massive pressure of that oil coming pushing out. The only real alternative at this point is to 1) get a new rig out there (somehow) and 2) place it over the hole and 3) start collecting the oil coming out. Now try getting someone down there at the bottom, even a roving underwater machine, to accomplish that feat. It just seems....impossible in the near future.
