    Transitions (Episode 297) May 9th 2010 w/ Ed Davenport

    Transition 297

Another fine show – starting with Kollektiv Turmstrasse’s lush remix of Silicone Soul & Guy Gerber’s massive P Diddy rework. Plus HUGE new tracks from Quivver & Marco Bailey that should come with a health warning & gems from the likes of Steve Lawler, Layo & Dosem.

We start with the return of renowned DJ & production duo Silicone Soul, last spotted on T266 with 'Language Of The Soul' (Sei A Remix) [SOMA272] one of the (many) outstanding tracks from last year. This time Hamburg's 'Kollektiv Turmstrasse' project are on hand for remixing duties, providing a down tempo and very atmospheric tech interpretation as part of an EP for Soma containing remixes from the 2009 self-titled 'Silicone Soul' album (the EP also includes Nhar's remix of ‘Midnite Man’).

Kollektiv Turmstrasse were founded in 1999 when Christian Hilscher/Nico Plagemann sharing an apartment and deep passion for electronic music. Influenced by the likes of Basic Channel, the duo went about exploring and experimenting with sounds and styles. John has picked up on their works these past few years playing remixes of Estroe’s 'Le Flaneur' and Rodriguez Jnr's 'Lila' and self-penned works like Wagnis, Millieum and the awesome Blutsbraeder live and on his show.

Supplement Facts label boss Guy Gerber returns to the fray following the successful ‘My Invisible Romance’ long-player (feat. the smash ‘The Hollywood in You’) as he takes time out to remix P Diddy as part of a burgeoning relationship (the title track of Gerber’s new “Hate/Love” EP features the talents of P. Diddy’s new Dirty Money Crew member, Dawn Richard). Guy Gerber has been working on a new mystery project between the two artists at Diddy’s Los Angeles ‘Bad Boy Studios’. It’s unclear whether the re-work of ‘Nothing Can Be True’ is part of this work or an offshoot – but the track has been getting great feedback of late and features on Hernan Cattaneo’s [ms] Birthday Mix.

Layo & Bushwacka return on their London based Olmeto imprint. 'Femme Fatale' developed while the duo were playing around with some 80’s elements, however the contemporary result is a delight with winding hypnotic synth floating over the deep bass and pads. With summer fast approaching the tracks funky and unpretentious nature is sure to earn it a place in many record boxes.

There’s another play this week for driving progressive anthem ‘ Northern Response’ from Marc Dosem & Bension. Their first release for Hong Kong based Technasia sub-imprint ‘Sino’ has techno stormer ‘Aries’ on the flipside. Butch, recently voted Groove magazine’s best producer in 2009, remixes Deepchild’s 2009 track “Backroom” for Trapez [parent label Traum Schallplatten. This one needs a huge sound system to fully deliver the skilfully assembles the elements of deep, emotional dark driving techno.

Speaking of big tracks, there’s another chance to hear John ‘Quivver’ Graham’s Bedrock debut ‘Yeah Yeah’ which is released over the month end. Graham delivers a pounding original that’s likely to shake clubs to their core - the deep bass, heavy drums, wailing sirens and a cool ’99 retro prog hook this evokes memories of the iconic ‘One Last Time’. This track should come with a health warning – unsurprisingly this has been massive for Diggers live. Time for clubs to upgrade their insurance cover on a global scale.

Marco Bailey has been on fire of late. After several releases on Bedrock and Carl Cox’s Intec, Marco returns to MB Elektronics release with partner in crime Tom Hades. Showing that Mr Bailey has an ear for a warming melody 'Nikita' is a wonderful track full of deep reverberating sounds, a beautiful pulsating bass-line, great drops and a floating melody. Fantastic stuff !

Finally Steve Lawler delivers a typical Lawler tribal anthem remixing Tel Aviv’s Itamar Sagi for a great finish to the show.

    Ed Davenport Bio

    http://www.myspace.com/eddavenport

UK born Ed Davenport has always had a penchant for the strongly musical side of the 4/4 genre. Inspired by pioneering British acts, but also by the deeply rooted electronic scenes of mainland Europe and the States, the Salisbury native set off on an honest and dedicated journey into music.

Experimenting with basic recording in his teens slowly led to a deeper knowledge of production, and after a time his first ever record was released on Gumption Recordings in 2006, while only 20 years young.

During his time in London further releases followed on Liebe*Detail, the Hamburg based eclectic house label, including the acclaimed cut 'Eyespeak', and Ed presented a darker sound on UK label Leftroom with two 12'' EPs under the Szenario alias.

Performing regularly in the busy underground club scene of the UK capitol, with international bookings becoming more and more common, Ed really found his feet as a DJ before his re-location to Berlin in the summer of '08. His first release of 2009 was the deep techno excursion of the 'Studio 395 EP' on UK platform Autoreply.

Since then a busy production schedule bore a string of releases on Berlin based labels Vidab and District of Corruption, remixes on Cocoon, Bedrock, and Konsequenz and Ed's debut release on the long-established Poker Flat label. Ed's performances in his new home town have taken him from extended sessions at Watergate to special summer sessions at Bar 25, to playing Live at Panoramabar amongst many others..!

2010 will be another busy year for the Englishman, with a hotly anticipated record planned on house institution NRK, another split 12'' on Liebe*Detail and a special project on new label Falkplatz with a beautiful vocal cameo from Ostgut Ton's Elif Biçer all in the makings.
