The rips from digital radio and tv are a maximum of 192 kbps mp2 which subjectively lands somewhere between 128 and 160 mp3 as a raw stream and transcoding to mp3 will degrade the quality anyway. Very good FM can get much higher quality but as analogue it is hard to quantify especially as the beeb will probably do some in-house processing. Best to hope for is for JD to release his own copy

indeed im recording every Essential Mix or other BBC Sets via SAT in CBR 160 kbit 48hz and i still have the highest quality.

You can have all the sound quality debates you like ... but bad music never turns good no matter what the bit rate.

Fortunately the programming and every single track on here is a corker regardless of the DAB rip, m4a or FM stream - it sounds 'kin great on all to these ears

They do certain bitrates and vbr BECAUSE of mp3 rules. All releases outside these rules are tagged as INTERNAL.

well people wanted other versions so i uploaded a different version. if everyone agrees on one being better than the other, go with it and remove the others... at least that is what i would do.

So true. !!! Sort of sad that although this site is a Digweed Temple we can't get the best quality. Btw I'm assuming any recording is going to lose something, so recording in a higher bitrate would make sure you don't miss as much. Your 320 recording will not be 320 quality, but it has a chance of being closer to the original .

@simonr . Your right, bad music is always bad, but good music can become great with better quality. . One of the reasons I am enjoying music as much as I ever have in my life is the extra quality we have been getting from some of our Djs The MS birthday mixes are just amazing. !!

The saddest thing thing for me is that in this digital age we accept less ??? Hard drives are ridiculously cheap, storage shouldn't be an issue.

Btw, Haven't listened yet, d/loading all the different ones to compare. But the hype has me excited

Working with John Digweed was a very rare opportunity, because he is an artist that doesn't fit the general preconceptions that apply to some DJs. He doesn't play any gimmick on stage. He is not distant, but he doesn't pretend that he is in a state of exhilaration either. His performance is entirely about the music. It looks like choosing the right track for the right moment and for a particular crowd is for him an utter act of kindness. He is generous but patient. Popular but somehow mysterious. Both light and dark. He is central to what is happening but at the same time he is mostly away from the limelight. He likes to think of himself as somebody that can keep calm and quiet right in the eye of the storm, but also is capable to react quickly and unpredictably.
