The releases are coming thick and fast out of the LSCity stable this year. Following on from their storming Miami WMC Sampler comes another pair of new tracks from Richard Dinsdale.
The Toolroom associated man knows how to make a killer track (as evidenced by him topping various Beatports charts in the recent past) and he’s done it again here on his ‘Left in Africa’ EP. The title track is a spare, rhythmic percussive track which weaves its way from synth breaks, to propulsive tech-y kicks and back again. The looseness of the track, interplay between chanting vocals and rolling bass and summery vibes make this exactly the sort of track that would be played by someone of Luciano’s outlook.
The second track, ‘Reset Africa’, is a lower slung affair – there’s more swagger to the beats and the grooves run deeper. As the ethnic chants subtly fade in and out of focus, the drums strike up and the track temperature rises – it’s hard not to imagine you are walking along a dusty African plain.
This release is yet another solid footstep forward in the increasingly interesting journey LSCity are marking out for themselves. For those listening in closely, it’s just as exciting....

LS City Records is to be a label of love. Set up by DJ and producer Jamie Fisher as a way of having complete control over the music he releases, rather than being at the mercy of various other label bosses, it’s an imprint born in Leeds and one which will showcase the city’s producing talent.
As someone who has been label manager for other people before, he has good A&R experience, a thorough knowledge of the way things work and a healthy collection of contacts: all these things spurred Jamie into going it alone, the result of which comes in the form of his first release, his Shapes EP’. A chunky slice of tech, it comes with remixes from rising stars Benny Royal and Lissat & Voltaxx.
Says Jamie of LSCity’s outlook: “The label is just the outlet and should only have small say in the actual track and final sounds of the master - I don’t want to interfere too much, I want people to be able to express themselves and know their music will be put out as they want it to be.”
That approach has attracted artists such as Richard Dinsdale and Style of Eye who are pencilled in for releases soon, and is sure to set the label in good stead. With such value placed on individual expression, then, LSCity looks set to be a label which goes its own way, forging ahead in the realms of underground house and techno, so keep your ear out...
