Re: What's the deal with Guy J?
^^^^ Is that the set that this thread was started for ??? I thought that was a discussion we had already had , and it was removed before ?? Btw most of that isn't even Guy J . It really pisses me off that these illegal sets keep doing damage !! I didn't register it either , probably the same as others, automatically ignored because there was nothing of substance.Originally posted by TheVrkit IS incredible isn't it??
STILL pumpin out great set after great set...never cheesed out, never sold out, never lost his touch..

Re: What's the deal with Guy J?
i think all this would go away if these damn labels would take a small royalty and let these artist release live sets commercially. such a shame they even screw with digweed when he wanted to release the vagabond set and he had to chop it way down becuase of these companies....wtf. really that is the reason some of these people are illegaly recording the sets.
u got to take care of the fanz somehow. alot of us in parts of the world dont have opptunites to see the djs we love becuase the djs may not come to the area where we live. and i am but sorry most commericially released studio albums usually are average at best.
can u imagine an 8 hour live john digweed or hernan cattaneo box set 6cd package commercially released . would be a major market for that.Comment

Re: What's the deal with Guy J?
IIRC the Amber set wasn't that memorable anyway.
Come on DD, people been making recordings of concerts even before DJs and mp3s.
Is it really illegal to make a recording? Like one might record a TV or radio show? Even if disseminated to fans at no cost, who might never have a chance to catch these people live?

Re: What's the deal with Guy J?
Just furthering the argument Feather. ??? You have your opinion I have mine . Yes people have been making recordings long before mp3s, it was wrong then too . But what makes it so much worse for the artist now, is the advent of the internet. Yes these recordings now are illegal in the full sense of the word if an artist has it in his contract and it is pretty standard in contracts now.
Were you at Ambar ?? Cos, as I've said, most of that set wasn't Guy J , which is why it wasn't that good. But you obviously thought it was, as did many others, so he has definitely suffered !
Whether they are given away or sold, the initial act is theft. We do not have a right to free music. If they give it to us, wonderful!! But it is their music, their decision. I might not agree with that decision but it's still theirs to make!
Strangely enough I am now listening to a Danny Tenaglia cd that I bought on Ebay UK rather than download against his wishes. The chances of me seeing him are extremely remote.
The facts are that most of the top Djs, including Guy J, do give us great music for free. The illegal stuff is more about someone saying "Look what I got" Far more an ego thing than a music thing. I can't say I've never downloaded anything illegal, but now I know better .
What I find funny is how often people try to get me to download illegal stuff. I'm certainly not hurting anyone by not doing it I do know some people are just trying to be nice
Just as a point , recording in a club, recording a tv show and recording a radio show are actually quite different. Another really good thing that has happened is that a lot of djs put up their radio shows , and in better quality , either on soundcloud or their own sites, plus facebook , myspace, twitter etc. TV channels are also doing similar things I watch more TV on my computer now than my tv. It all just keeps getting betterOriginally posted by TheVrkit IS incredible isn't it??

Re: What's the deal with Guy J?
How's recording in a club, a TV show, and a radio show different? Because I download TV shows via bittorrent and that's a similarly grey area.

Re: What's the deal with Guy J?
I don't use bittorrent for that reason, plus I get whatever I want from the tv channel direct. Differences ?? Recording in a club is probably the only one that is covered by contract. Tv shows and radio shows are readily available to one and all. As I said they are easy to get legally anyway.Originally posted by TheVrkit IS incredible isn't it??
