Transition 303
This week’s Transitions really lets that sunset terrace vibe flood in raising the spirits if your football team isn't progressing quite as you'd hoped in the World Cup.
There's an eclectic start as Berlin based electronic composer/DJ Cora Novoa maintains the relentless quality of productions for Madrid-based Natura Sonoris imprint through the title track of her 'Icaro' EP. There's a maturity to the young Ourense born Galician artists work. Blending together feeling & emotion fuelled with melody, Cora draws from different electronic genres perfectly combining the elements to achieve a personal & unique sound.
'Icaro' is one of those ambient tracks that draws you in through the gentle strings, then the beats start & the vocals kick in taking everything to another level. A perfect & beguiling piece of music that you want to hear after a great day, preferably in a Balearic location just after the sun sets on the horizon as day moves into night.
Hessen's Johannes Heil returns fresh from T301 & again for Cocoon. For more than 15 years Heil has been an inherent part of the German Techno scene, with classics like 'Paranoid Dancer' (Kanzleramt, 1998 ) & 'Calling' (1999) Johannes has continued his musical development.
This teaser from Heil's forthcoming 11th studio album 'Loving' sees Johannes present himself in a more House-orientated way than ever before referencing both classic Detroit Techno & modern high-tech House. Thanks to jubilating strings & piano riffs “Freedom Of Heart” is a euphoric Motor City slammer that nods to the summer.
Finally we get a chance to delve into the hidden treasures of John's forthcoming Structures project with Umbral Aguir's tech orientated remix of Guy J's iconic Esperanza. The remix really plays on that melodic hook, breaking it down, then setting a deep groove with added background vocals before the synths come in & the theme cleverly re-emerges supplemented by heavier beats.
As ever this comes in a range of formats all at amazing value for money - for vinyl enthusiasts & collectors there are six releases you can grab individually or collectively, all in that impeccable high quality packaging synonymous with Bedrock (purveyors of electronica since 1998 ).
'Plague of New Age' from Lisbon's Photonz is a twisted techno trip as Maetrik delivers a trademark dark remix, combining a groovy low-end rumble colliding with catchy staccato highs.
It's been a long time coming, but the first Babiczstyle release is out July 12th. Always one to have tracks way in advance, Diggers played 'The Sun' from this EP way back at the start of the year on T281. Expect no compromise in quality - Babicz is one of those producers embracing the latest technology alongside the very best in old school analogue frequencies. "I do this to have a platform with the highest possible audio quality & have a place for me & my friends to release our music" says Babicz. The hypnotic & poignant beauty of 'Remote Kiss' is the work on an electronic artist at the top of his game.
It seems Joris Voorn can do no wrong since the release of his pioneering Balance compilation - with a successful record label (Rejected & sub imprint Green) plus another summer residency at Space, Joris has been busy with a fresh batch of remixes that are ready to explode onto those Ibizan dance-floors & terraces.
After tackling Nalin & Kanes 'Beachball' Joris turns his attention to NYC based Harry 'Choo Choo' Romero's Ovum debut, taking a dubbed out approach. 'Phuture' succinctly summarises that ibizan terrace vibe - simultaneously forward thinking with a cool tech house sound Joris's remix also grooves along & has that magical piano element synonymous with the Balearic clubs that really gets the floors moving - also likely to go down a storm at DC10 if the Authorities & Guardia allow it !
The vibe continue at pace as Sahar Z, resident of the legendary Club Ha Oman 17 & Godfather of Israeli DJs, teams up with recent musical partner Tel Aviv's Guy Mantzur, who specializes in electronic music across Tech House,Techno, House & Underground genres.
We finish with the Chemical Brothers latest Main Room anthem ... massive as Sasha's last track at Sankeys.
This week we have a very strong guest mix from Wiretappeur - we can expect great things from these guys in the future if their unmissable one hour mix is anything to go by. Make sure you check it out.

Florian Kruse (Hamburg)
Everything started with Florian’s release on Om Records, ‘Love Hurts’ in 2008. This one created a lot of hype for him. As a first sign of bigger things to come Nick Warren took an interest in Florian’s music, and included his Nils Nϋrnberg collaboration ‘An Why E’ on his “Global Underground- Lima” compilation, out on GU/Ministry Of Sound. New signings to Mazi's (Audio Soul Project) Fresh Meat label, and a string of great underground tracks and remixes on cutting edge underground labels like Dieb Audio, Urban Torque, Knee Deep Recordings and more joining the queue to get him one to watch!
Florian has also two projects running as Kruse & Nϋrnberg with his studio mate Nils Nürnberg and as Wiretappeur with Nils and Stel. These projects grabbed the attention of some of todays most important underground labels; NRK, Mood Music, Slip’N’Slide as well as Mazi’s Fresh Meat Records and Milton Jackson & Shur-I-Kan’s Dark Energy label, who have all invested in K&N and Wiretappeur with enough remixes and original productions. With a brand new studio in Hamburg, a long waiting list for tracks and remixes and with recent brilliant DJ-Sets, these guys have absolutely no reason to slow down, and more tracks and remixes are of course forthcoming.

This boy has already begun to make his mark on this blossoming scene; proof that he really means business! He's obsessed with expressing his love for this inspiring music form and with an expanding DJ schedule that will see him performing across Europe, a new studio in Hamburg that he's running with his buddy Florian Kruse, a mile long waiting list for tracks and remixes, this guy has absolutely no reason to slow down.
