    Hackintosh.

Who else has given this a go?
I remembered I had the Kalway 10.5.2 iso lying around so decided to try it out. Found a 5 year old old Hitachi hard drive and happen to have the Asus P5W DH Deluxe mobo that it loves. So I read up on installing it, burnt the ISO, popped it in the drive and voila! I now have a dual boot Mac/Win7 machine. Even on the old drive it runs nice and smooth, although start up takes a bit longer and apps initially are slow to start but once loaded run like a dream.
Next step is to use one of those loaders that fool the Retail OS into thinking it's booting from a Mac rather than using a hacked kernel (which makes updating hard). So Snow Leopard is next up.

you make it sound like it's easy, lol. it was a long process for me...looking for drivers and manually installing it. coming from someone who never messed with a mac was a bitch! but i do now have a toshiba laptop with kalyway installed. everything works fine. very usefull for my iphone apps.

      Re: Hackintosh.

To be honest, for me it was very easy! Just had to switch AHCI on in my BIOS settings (which also required a Win7 registry edit) and change some settings on the MacOS install. Apart from that it was pretty much plain sailing. Like I said, I'm lucky enough to have one of the motherboards that just work.

I've used an Asus P5W DH Premium. However it seems a lot of boards released these days have varying degrees of success. I've now installed 10.6.2 onto my machine but have no wireless drivers for it. Everything else works though.

Don't suppose anyone's tried installing Snow Leopard to a laptop have they? Installed it to mine this evening using the vanilla retail CD and iBoot (along with Multi Beast to add a loader at the front) bu the trackpad and keyboard won't work - oddly they do in safe mode.

EDIT: Got it working myself using the VoodooPS2Trackpad Kext. Took a few attempts to do it but got there in the end. Now have a fully working none-hacked 10.6.4 install on my 17" Laptop. Awesome!

I just installed Snow Leopard in VirtualBox on my Ubuntu desktop via this article. It worked exactly as described

I've installed mine straight to its own partition, comes up with a windows bootloader that pops up for 5 seconds so I can switch to that or it will go into Windows 7 as normal. A neat party trick for when round mates houses (especially ones that seem to think that Macs are some superbreed of hardware and PC's can't run as good as them)
