    Transitions (Episode 305) July 4th 2010 w/ Monaque

    Transition 305

There's a real action packed show this week - with so much great music about, Diggers manages to cram in 10 of the very best productions currently doing the rounds in electronica-land.

Remute's deep grooving remix of AFFKT sets a summer terrace vibe as we get another look at Sincopat's maiden release (the Uner & Los Suruba Remix of 'Once Upon A Time' featured on T304). Definately a track that you could see featuring on the Terazza's of DC10, Space & Cocoon now the ibiza season is well underway.

Born in Cavour, a little town close to Turin, Italian DJ/producer Mauro Picotto has won substantial acclaim from the late '90s with a number of popular trance songs in Europe - in particular,'Lizard', 'Komodo', 'Iguana' and 'Pulsar' were some of Picotto's biggest hits. Mauro has gone on to release over 600 productions + numerous remixes, establishing his Meganite in ibiza as well as the Alchemy imprint that focuses on delivering some serious main room music, as evidenced here with Remix Robot's take.

Ukrainian duo Alex & Artem launched iO in February 2009 - in their homeland they host weekly radio shows on the DJ FM & Kiss FM. Reknowned for their brand of no nonsense, funk fueled, vibing tech-house iO released ‘Cabaret’ for Diynamic Music to acclaim - now iO debut for Joris Voorn & Edwin Oosterwal's Rejected.

Amsterdam based Rejected has constantly showcased their deep techno and house credentials since conception in 2006. With a penchant for the old school sounding, analogue friendly & melodic side of techno Rejected (+ sub-imprint Green) has earned vast acclaim & support.

The Lead track from iO's ‘Play The Same’ EP is all about it's locked on bouncing groove, loose beats, heavy bass, a warm sax line and moody vocal keeping that Terrace vibe alive ahead of Mr Voorn's Space residency.

Next up is Berlin-based Parisian Shonky with the bass led groove and neatly cut beats of 'Maraboutage' from his Cluborama' EP. Shonky’s music, based on intricate patterns from the formative maths prodigy, is smart and sharply defined - yet also strangely beguiling and sometimes, in its own way, maddeningly intense.

We count down to the release of John's new ‘Structures’ mix CD/docu-DVD/Vagabond live set via T303 guest Wiretappeur and a deep, lush house-laden exclusive that’s perfect for early on in Diggers’ set as he builds the night.

The pace picks up a notch with Maetrik’s latest for Steve Bug’s Audiomatique before a preview of electronic and progressive legend Pole Folder showcasing his latest project ahead of his second album 'The Helsinki Accord'. The Belgian Maestro’s eclectic ‘Motel’ is a typical Folder-affair, dark, melodic, edgy, hypnotic & captivating.

Up & coming ibizan duo Melohman & Bora live and breathe house music, and have been charted by the likes of Locodice & Luciano. Deep house groover ‘Tierra’ is their best track yet as Julien Chaptel takes the jazzy original and gives things a more contemporary and techier edge. Their debut for 2020vision is limited to 500 copies and should appeal across the board, from the dc10 house brigade to the nudisco crew to the more serious techno-heads.

Things hits a harder vibe with Koen Groeneveld’s tough remix of Lützenkirchen whose being banging out some very fine work of late. This is already Lützenkirchen’s 12th release on Great Stuff during the past 6 years and illustrates his remarkable metamorphosis duringthis time from elektro house to techno and minimal, up to his almost funk-tinged disco approach which had been twisted by Netherland producer Groeneveld.

We end with a tune that’s been colossal for Diggers over the past six months & kept under wraps until now. Luis Junior (real name, Luis Vaquero Garcia) is a well known producer, club DJ and radio DJ from the new Spanish electronic music scene. Earlier in 2010 he got a lot of attention for his 'Colache EP' on Bedrock Digital - now he returns with the massive 'Bg', a track that has been on many people’s wish lists for months.

Future Bedrock classic ‘Bg’ is a monster - the dark and twisted chiming Holden-esque hook evokes memories of ‘Stoppage Time’ with it's Border Community edginess. Luis Junior takes us on an epic pulsating10 minute trip into an exciting new breed of modern progressive house.

The musical equivalent of an incediary device 'Bg' is the sort of track a DJ drops, then steps back to a safe distance as the mayhem and carnage ensues on the dancefloor. This one should be approached with extreme caution, handled with care and used responsibly.

Dance-floors beware, Bg is out now.

A final mention for this week's guests Monaque - not only have they provided a stellar guest miv, but the NYC/Moscow duo also have a Renaissance Russia compilation forthcoming - as well as a whole range of productions. Hop over to their Souncloud site for some great previews plus a 320kbs Renaissance mix.

    Monaque Bio

The New York and Moscow based DJ/Production partnership Monaque, made up of Alex Monakhov and Serge Que are quickly establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with and one of the hotly tipped names to watch this year. The duo have deep roots in electronic music dating back almost 20 years and has seen them residing at some of the worlds most prestigious parties held by the likes of Godskitchen, Renaissance, Cream and Global Underground playing alongside some of the most famous names in the industry such as Sasha, James Zabelia, Pete Tong and John Digweed to name but a few.

With a very productive year in the studio behind them, resulting in almost 20 releases on esteemed labels such as Ultra, Hernan Cattaneo's 'Sudbeat' and Anthony Pappa's 'Red Light District' alongside more underground labels like Forensic, Stripped and Vapour Recordings to great critical acclaim. Working with such a variety of labels and artists has allowed Monaque to not only hone their production skills but also showcase their musical diversity which has seen their output crossing genres from deep house to tech house and techno. Successfully crossing these musical boundaries and the sheer consistent quality of their music has had a profound impact on their fan base with support coming thick and fast from everyone from Sasha and Christian Smith through to Laurent Garnier and Luciano.

Production work aside the pair are also very busy touring as DJ's or performing live sets, last summer saw them perform in front of a 30,000 plus crowd with Armin Van Buuren on the main stage of the famous Kazantip festival alongside a residency at Arma 17, which for the uninitiated is one of the coolest clubs in Moscow (if not the world )hosting regular parties for the likes of Steve Lawler's 'Viva' and Sven Vath's 'Cocoon' labels. With further residencies on the cards and with a weekly radio show broadcasting to an audience of more than a million people along with a monthly show on Frisky Radio, it's no surprise at all that Monaque are starting to stir up a lot of interest.

So here we are in 2010 and the duo show no signs of slowing down, signing up to Dave Seaman's Audio Therapy agency to take care of worldwide bookings and immediately embarking on a 25 date Eastern European tour in support of a CD compilation to be released through the illustrious Renaissance label. As well as the CD release there will also be singles on Renaissance along with Hernan Cattaneo's 'Sudbeat' label and forthcoming releases to feature remixes from Jim Rivers , Sei A and Bedrock superstar Guy J it would seem as if their profile is set to rise to the next level and above.
