    home theater problems?

ok firstable i know im gonna look like the caveman on my banner xD

well the problem is that i have this hometheater

the problem is not that i have ok? xD

anyway....i connect it to the tv on audio out so i can see the tv on 5.1 anyway it aint hearing most of the speakers anything, i got thru a RCA cable (red and white)

im ot sure if i need the compunt cable so i can archive the sound of all of the speakers? a friend told me that i need an optical cable for it, but it doesnt have a optical out on the hometheater so if i buy the compound cable should it work? all of them? coz on the menu says its on 5.1 but onle the front speakers sound....

also i have check that all the speakers work properly connecting them on the front speakers out put and yes all of them sound very well...

also i have my ps3 connect tru an hdmi cable to the tv.....i also want my ps3 sounds 5.1 also my bluray movies...

thanks hope you understand me coz im not very good at english xD

    Re: home theater problems?

If I have this correct then you are connecting a stereo out signal from your TV to the Home Theatre system? Sadly it doesn't quite work this way and I doubt a component cable would work either unless your TV can decode a 5.1 signal to separate outputs. Having your PS3's sound put through the HDMI into the TV and then back out will also not work for the same reason.

How do you receive normal TV? Is it via a cable or satellite dish that has its own box? That would be your answer to getting a 5.1 signal to the home theatre. I've had a look at the specs and it doesn't seem to mention any of the inputs available on it. If it has HDMI then you should be able to put your PS3 or cable/satellite in to that and it will play the sound. If has an optical in then again you can use this to get the digital signal in.

However, you may have bought what I like to call a "Dumb box". This sort of device does no decoding and relies on the other devices to do the work and send it on in the form of 6 phono plugs (one for each audio channel). I believe the PS3 may send 6 channels out through the composite cable but don't quote me on that. It's also unlikely your cable/sat box would do its own decoding either.

also in the specifications says its only stereo sound, but can i send all the audio even in stereo to all the speakers? or its impossible?

      thanks for the response

It's impossible for the TV to decode all 5 channels and send them to the home theatre unfortunately. It can only send 2 channels. Does your home theatre have a Pro Logic II logo on it? It may be possible to use that instead if it can do that for 5 channels although its not quite as good as true Dolby Digital or DTS. Your LG home theatre needs to be able to decode else you're a bit stuck.

          Re: home theater problems?

I assume the DVD plays 5.1 just fine, right? No need for a connection there, since the player and the home theatre are the same unit...

You have two options -- you can run an optical cable from the optical out on the TV to the optical input (which is probably labeled "AUX" or something like that) on the home theatre, or you can run an optical cable or digital coax directly from the source (cable box, satellite box, etc.) to the home theatre's corresponding input. You cannot get 5.1 sound from standard stereo cables, period, although most home theatre setups have settings which will split sound into 5.1 channels as if it were 5.1, which is still better than nothing at all.

Bottom line -- if you want 5.1 sound, you need a digital connection running from the TV or source to the home theatre.

dan, then i assume im stuck.....yesterday i just put the connecion into the input lines red white and yellow as a regular dvd, i can hear the 5.1 with the movie fight club rite?...all the speakers sounds when they need to, but it doesnt have a optical input so if i want my games and bluray movies to play 5.1 i need a new hometheater xD.....jesus, coz to hear my ps3 on the hometheater i have to connect it to the output on the tv wich sucks....but thanks for the fast responses, i have cable tv so i dont have a satellite box anyway...
            thanks anyway!

you don't have a cable box or anything? if not, you're not getting a digital signal anyway, and therefore you wouldn't be able to get 5.1 sound regardless of what input you use.

What inputs do you have on your home theatre system? There's got to be a way to get this done -- can't imagine that a new HT system wouldn't have this capability, because that's the whole point of getting a 5.1 HT system...

RCA yellow white red and some other colours that says compound some sort of that with green and blue outputs....

i connect it to the tv on the input of the RCA and the dvd sound fine 5.1 the voice sound on the center speaker and everything....but if i want that my cable tv sound or my ps3 sound on 5.1 i think i cant, coz i have to connect to the rca on the output on the tv so the ps3 send the sound to the tv and the tv to the HT.....so i guess i can only watch DVD movies in 5.1 rite?......

can you take a picture of the back of the HT unit and post it? I just fail to believe that there's not a digital input on this thing. FFS, I have a pretty low end HT system in my bedroom from like 3.5 years ago, and it has one. If you just bought this, it HAS to have at least one digital input.

Is there an optical input hidden just behind the stereo input on the right? Because if not then that's one of the most useless devices I have ever seen! It will only decode your DVD's to 5.1 and nothing else.
