An exciting one this week, even if we do say so ourselves. Yes, the mysterious and awesome rave monster that is Drums Of Death supplies an exclusive DJ mix for Clash.
One of the few dance artists that deserves every ounce of hype surrounding him, DoD has quickly impressed all and sundry with a blinding debut EP and a string of beautifully bassline-oriented remixes for a range of artists.
His Clash mix starts off calmly before rapidly hitting hard, with unrelenting beats, walls of quivering bass and choppy synthlines at every turn, perfectly demonstrating DoD’s unique talent for intelligently progressing rave music and fitting it snugly into a twenty-first century framework. No mean feat.
Featured artists in DoD’s mix include Andrew Weatherall’s Sabres of Paradise – who kick things off deceptively slowly – Dutch electro-house favourite Bart B More, renowned Chilean experimental electronica artist Cristian Vogel, a Berlin-meets-Bristol clash through a Modeselektor remix of techno-dub act Headhunter, and a blast of Simian Mobile Disco’s delightful wonky techno, via their track ‘Ambulance’. A fine selection of tunes.
Drums Of Death’s debut album, ‘Generation Hexed’, is released on September 20 on Greco-Roman Records. A launch party for the album will take place at The Macbeth pub in Hoxton, London, on September 8. It will no doubt be a hell of a lot of fun.
