    up-ing the tempo

i miss those un-cheezy trance-ish tunes from right around 99 and 00. i think prog house has slowed down the tempo considerably and while i'm not on the bandwagon of "faster is better" (pvd anyone?), a notch up in the tempo can sometimes bring the much needed kick to a set. i do love prog house however.

this is where the "pacemaker" plug-in for winamp comes in (or anything similar).

take digweed's beirut set. bump up the speed 2-3%, and you get a pretty action-packed set! i think it's more useful for the programmed kiss sets (as opposed to the lives) since most tend to be a bit lethargic IMO.

in most live sets the bpm is higher, take sasha's recent mix on kiss, it would probably been around 132 to 134 at the start, but that was a peak time set.

i find my self doing this. a few tracks i would play alot faster were emerald, the dekay remix of distant memories. etc.

also, lowering the pace of some heavy breaks and jungle leads to some interesting finds.

I like to play my breaks 33s at 45 for d'n'b effect. I like my beats fast and hard

Just watch out for any vocals or you may end up with the Chipmunks/Kayne West sound

i've noticed how slow the kiss sets are too. thought beirut was fine, but quite a few of the kiss sets just drag along.

Diggers does tend to play a lot slower on his kiss sets sometimes then he does other times. I guess he has his fast and slow days. Some tracks do sound faster and some can never sound good when played slow.
