Good lord. Been playing with the beta of this and it's looking to be quite good. UI is neat and simple, it's secure by default, you can pin websites to the taskbar (which when sites start making use of it properly should be extremely useful) ands it loads up pretty much instantaneously vs the 3 seconds for Opera to start (and another 2 before it was usuable) and 5 seconds for Firefox.*

Microsoft seem to be upping their game lately. Windows 7 is a superb OS, their Live Security Essentials is probably the best anti virus going (not least as it's small, unobtrusive and nicely integrates into the system) and now this.


*I should add that is an upto figure. Sometimes they appear faster than that, but IE is doing it all the time.

I've heard they've added some type of hardware acceleration in this guy which makes it nice and fast. I haven't used IE in years, this has to be a huge improvement for me to switch away from firefox.

Some nice improvements in IE9. Speed-wise it is very noticeable but I like the presentation a lot more too. It's no opera though...

Yup. I havent used anything else for years. Opera is nice and super quick, but it doesn't have all of the nice plugins that ff has. Firefox is quick enough, I don't need a webpage rendered in .003s, so I'll take a bit slower firefox over Opera.

Been using chrome for a while now, its the fastest browser ive tested and also syncs my bookmarks between my desktop/laptop or any computer that has the program installed.
However ive had problems browsing some webpages which are coded in a IE only language or something that may have some links or scripts that dont run in other browsers. Thats when i sadly have to launch IE, and cry a little bit.

i still do. been using firefox more than chrome and opera lately, which is strange...

I switched from Firefox to Opera last year and not looked back tbh. It's got some neat plug ins for it but it started getting too slow and clunky (I think 3.6 may have addressed that somewhat). I don't install much in the way of add ons so Opera was fine for my needs but I seem to be having problems with that on both my PC and Laptop (Both are Core Duos with Win 7 Pro x64) where it comes up with the "not responding" message at the top, especially on youtube vids. So with both faltering it may leave an opening for IE for me.

I'm not a Microsoft fan by any stretch but I'm definitely giving them credit for the work they've put in to their latest software. There's no doubt they've been forced to compete with increased pressure from the likes of Google, Firefox and Apple (and more open source alternatives) and that's definitely a good thing. Back at the turn of the century they were pretty much the dominant force in the PC world and the closest thing to a comptetitor was Netscape... which was just a browser. Now they're facing competition on all fronts and they are rising to it well. Always good for the consumer.
