    Re: iTunes Ping

Hey guys, Janky's a personal friend of mine and yes if he say's he's built it, then I'd believe him cause he is working at Apple.
Rico, I haven't tried it yet but I think I will give it a go. I will admit I do dig the better performance of iTunes 10 though there's still some features I'd like to have changed. One of the biggest gripes I have is being able to copy songs from a specially created playlist on my iPod to a local PC for a backup.

I'm not joking. I did have a major hand in building Ping. I've added a ton of folks to my profile but I'm looking to follow some true progressive fans without elaborating on the ineptitude with technology lurking on this board.

I dont use itunes, mainly because I use linux for most of my everyday stuff, and it chokes if I try to index my 300G library. Plus I want to organize on filesystem layout, not my id3 tags which would take 100 years to correct.

The major gripe I've heard about it is that its mainly just another apple tool to drive up itunes purchases. AKA it just recommends based on stuff you've bought only off the store and not whats being played in your library which isn't directly purchased. Also that it is ANOTHER "social" network, which is just fragmented from every other social network already out there, like last.fm.

Is this all off base or what do you think?

Hi janky you must be some serious whizz kid to be into that kind of thing.
I'd just like to ask you one question if i may as (like Di said) it's not often you get a direct line to someone at Apple

I have no problems figuring it out, my reason for stating it there is if iTunes would do it by default, it would be so much easier. It does seem like a backward way of doing it but when we get CDs from India, my wife will load them on her iPod and end up lending the discs to friends and family (and its a while before we see them back). She also deletes them from her laptop to save on space. Now how do I get them off her iPod in case I like something?

You can't. itunes wont allow you to copy music off of your device and back on to your PC.

                    Re: iTunes Ping

My preferred solution is a 10GB thumbdrive. Makes things very easy to transport music.

but then again, it just goes to highlight the limitations of iTunes

As true progressive fans it's not our job to be be technically good. We just have to love the music. I personally do as much as I have to to achieve the result I want, fiddling with apps isn't what i want. What happened to "It just works "

DIDI: I'm saddened to learn iTunes doesn't work for you. It does however work for 160,000,000 other people. Perhaps you should make a few trips to your local Genius Bar to get some help? I am sure there is someone that would be willing to help you, even if you are raging with negativity when making the appointment.
