    What Amy & Speaker?

    Hey Guys,

So just a quick question for ya as im sure alot of you know more than me about tech stuff.

Basically my mate is starting up a smallish retail shop. He asked me to come up with some audio solutions. The shop is on two different levels, there are four speaker cables which come back to one point downstairs. He has a dedicated computer which he will just use itunes/winamp or whatever to play music all day so it will just be a cable audio out to amp source connection. Obvisouly the sound quality won't be the best but it seems the easiest way.

So my question is what amp and speakers would you advise? I think i bascially just need a standard 4 channel Amp with a few sources but realistically its just gonna be using the one source. He want's to spend the least amount of money on it considering its gonna really be for background music but he still wants the 4 speakers working alright. We don't have much choice in terms of dealers who sell audio seprates in dublin so was gonna just get them online. was suggesting just a couple of Bose acoustimass cube speakers, think they are around €70 each on ebay and a yamaha, onkyo kenwood amp for around €250. I know the cube speakers are supposed to be underpowered but he prob won't have them very loud anyway, well maybe on occasion. ust getting thrown abit by different wattage, ohm's and all that jazz. I know as a rule of thumb you should at least get an amp that can power the wattage combined of all speakers. Or is that ohm's hmm

Well anyway, hes willing to go over the €500 euro limit.. If it was me id be going over the €1500 limit for better speakers but its not my money.

    Cheers for the help

Grant? maybe Winehouse - depends on the clientele of the store. Not too sure on the speaker

      LULZ!!!! ^^^^^^^

I wouldn't go all out for an Onyko amp for a shop. And you don't NEED an amplifier that can drive 4 separate speaker outputs .You simply connect both left speakers (upstairs and downstairs) to the left speaker output and vice versa for the right speakers. Make sure you have an Amp that's capable of addressing the power draw required. However, if you don't know what you're doing you could end up melting your equipment. Personally I think you're probably better off checking a PA system than a home amp. Will cope better with the environment and have more juice to give out if needed.

Haah - So my title was wrong for the thread but its funny so whatever, i was tired last night. Jerkz!

Yeah i was thinking you could use 4 speakers of a two channel amp but as you said don't wanna melt the system. Thought PA systems were expensive enough though? Honestly i doubt the shop will ever need more juice thats why i was looking for a cheapish amp and a couple of speakers. There seems to be alot of different suggestions on the net as to what route is the best.

Maybe i am just looking for someone to suggest an exact amp and 4 speakers that will work and won't blow.. thanks anyway.

You can get a half decent PA setup (amp plus speakers) for about £250. Cheaper than an Onkyo amp on its own.
