Freeze return for Halloween special, the infinite confines of the Williamson Tunnels rebranded for one evening for a chilling Rave in the Grave soiree. The clubnight continues to grow with speed and gusto, so far bringing the aural aristocracy of dance music down for a party in the stunningly unique surroundings of the Tunnels. The venue has originality, heritage and functionality in spades, providing the perfect environment for... dance music with a twist. And what could be more appropriate on Halloween than slipping into the darkness underground?!
As ever the soundtrack is of the finest standard, this time the ghoulish grooves served up by a man who has been absent from the city for far too long, Lee Burridge. Burridge started off as a psytrance dj in the early nineties, earning his crust (quite literally) at full moon parties in Thailand and at Hong Kong superclubs like Cream before Sasha and Craig Richards hauled him back to the UK. The trio forged a devastating partnership as the infamous Tyrant Soundsystem, renowned for warping resonant dub, bleepy electro and thundering breaks around the tech house staple, quickly becoming the sound of London in the late nineties and laying the foundations for what Fabric has become today.
Burridge also found favour with the progressive house jet set, releasing several mix cds for Global Underground and even managing to crash into the top ten of the DJMag’s annual poll. Ore recently he’s been picking up some steam with the European vanguard of house and techno; his collaboration with Matthew Dekay ‘Wongel’ has just seen a release on Coccon after being the staple of Loco Dice, Vilalobos and Sven Vath himself over the summer.
Ever the musical chameleon, his tastes have evolved from bass heavy house to trippy techno and wonky electro grooves, crafting a sinister, warped and downright dirty pollination of sound. His ex-pat past continues to inform his present; despite his nationality Burridge sets are rare in this nation and even with a rich history DJing for Cream and Alderaan in the city in the past, he hasn’t been to Liverpool for over half a decade. He’s the perfect raconteur to continue Freeze’s brilliant legacy at the Tunnels.
Support on the evening comes in the shape of Audio Therapy’s Murray Mckee and Freeze original residents Rob Casson and Andy Currie, the trio offering a fiendish ensemble of sinister synths and blood curdling beats to set the pace for Burridge’s histrionics. The pre-party in the Font kick-starts things off at 8pm with General Jimmy at the helm
