Re: WTF is going on with the NHL?
quote="unome"]I think the NHL has done itself in worse than baseball did.. the thing is, I dont think many people really care.
I live in tampa, the defending Stanley Cup winners, and there isnt really much of a buzz about it. The only story that really came out was when they got their rings, and there wasnt any ceremony.
I was actually getting into it during the last playoffs, but to be honest, I can take it or leave it.[/quote]
I live in Tampa as well and I am bitterly dissapointed that I cannot watch my home team defend the Stanley Cup. I had an awesome time following last years playoffs, they were pretty incredible..if you don't enjoy the sport for what it is and need huge crowds and buzz to draw you in, then id suggest something more mainstream...i personally love the fact that the lightning scene here is somewhat underground and bazarre..
and btw the NBA is absolutely putrid...once the playoffs are over for the NFL, we wont have much left to watch...
looking forward to spring training games down hereComment

^^^^ that is very true. We have college ball, but I haven't been following much of that. Basketball has been okay. Alot of good teams in the mix and alot of bad teams.
Definitely looking forward to baseball seasondance like no one is watchingComment

Was it Wanye Gretzky that said he fears the NHL could be locked out for Possibly 2 years.Thats pretty scary when you think about it.Alot of owners could be in serious trouble if that happens. Here in Boston they started opening the Fleetcenter to public skating. also they are starting up hockey leagues to play at the fleetcenter in place of the NHL.I think they should start televising the AHL games in the place of the NHL just for the simple fact that people arent showing intrest in hockey anymore. If they showed the AHL maybe more people will keep some intrest in hockey." I agree that it doesn't seem to be going in the players way they had hoped. And personally I do not believe any sport player should make that much money. And that also the freakin tickets should not be as high as they are.
Far as I am concerned I'm happy I don't have to see the last place...all the time Columbus Bluejackets on my tele anymore. At least for this year.Comment

hockey has a very new fanbase.. if its not been shown people that barely got to liking it will simply forget it .. i like JB idea that the players need to market themselves more in order to increase fanbase.....
any tipe of hockey on tv would be good ...say it with me "midget hockey federation"Comment

I care.... I Heard Gary Bettmen yesterday on Mike and the Mad dog. He stated that there has not been any new developments. That the players walked out of there counteroffer in 2 hours...So he said that the owners are going to wait as long is it takes. He also stated that 20 out of the 30 team operate in the red..........I hate to say this but i think i have to agree with the owners. There is just not enough revenue to justify some of the salary........It just doesn't look good
