Mixer booth/rec out to an external soundcard, attached on a lappy equipped with SoundForge 10 Pro (most of the times)

The mixer main out is normally rated at a Voltage signal of 2V~7V RMS, capable of driving Power AMPs (or Active Monitor Speakers).
The nominal input of a Line In of a sound card is MAX rated at 500mV (sometimes less than that and around to 150~250mV).

I would stongly suggest you to use the Mixer REC Out or Booth Out (with thebooth knob set to a low value), so that you can avoid any "badaboom" results...

the programme really doesn't have anything to do with the sound, we've recorded 10 hour live mixes with Audacity and as long as the levels are set correct it's fine.. your sound card and mixer are going to have more to do with how the recording sounds than the software used

you can hook up the rca to the master out and go into your laptop, then hook your speakers up to the channel out puts
I normally do this for studio recording as it's easier to control the levels when mixing, since your using the master to record you wont get as much fluctuation when tweaking the trim and eq's

                ^^That

Check Eq's and for recordings make sure you play below distortion levels.

                      that's a really good example.

me, I use the same traktor scratch pro to play and record the mix.

Re: how do u record ur sets?

When recording a mix in my home studio, then I record directly into Peak Audio 7 on my computer. My mixer (Xone DB4) has a USB sound card which can be routed to the software. This method is ideal since it minimizes the signal chain.

When recording live gigs, I use a Tascam DR-2D recorder plugged into the Record Output of my mixer. I prefer using the external recorder in live situation because I feel safer. When I play out I use CDJ-2000s with Rekordbox Link to my laptop, and I get worried by playing tracks thru Rekordbox and recording on the laptop at once in a club. At home, I'm not worried about it.... but in a club I'm more cautious.

whatever Daw or mp3 recorder is available. I've recorded live sets into a zoom H4 handheld recorder and came out great. The key is to leave plenty of headroom so you can brickwall the shit out of it later with a more refined setting. happy spinning
