DJing Mixing warped tracks on CDJ's - HELP

Does anyone else find that if a track has been warped in ableton then it is harder to mix with when using cdj's?

I find that i am making lots more small adjustments to keep it in time (this is when i am mixing a warped track with one which has not been). Has anyone had a similar issue or i am warping them wrong?

are you using tracks that were warped BY YOU or ones that were warped only by Ableton. As I find that the warping that Ableton does by itself never works properly. Therefore I can see how it would be messed up if you let the computer do it.

^^ True Live auto warping never seems to work properly and especially on Live8

But why would you warp them and play them on cdj's?

I have attempted at making edits of tracks using ableton then to dj with them - the idea of using ableton beatmatching does not take my fancy. Is the best idea to warp them manually - does that mean just placing the beat markers where required? (bit of a novice to ableton - apologies in advance)

That's correct. To do it manually you need to locate the warp markers usually with the Kick's Transients or where required to follow the correct rhythm.

There are plenty of videos on youtube that can show you with a video how to do the warping correctly. Personally I liked how the warping was in Live 6. Don't know why they changed it...didn't make it better. Made it more complex. I wish these people would learn to leave good things alone.

Have fun working with the edits. I'm sure your crowd...if they knew...would appreciate what you are doing for them.

I sometimes purchase music from some sites that comes with unstable tempo. When I find tracks like this, I will use Ableton Live to warp the track and render a new copy which then has perfectly stable tempo. I have not noticed any issues playing back my warped tracks on my CDJ-2000s.

Like already mentioned, it is important that you manually set your warp markers in Ableton Live. The auto warp feature never gets it right, at least not for full length tracks.

Don't get carried away with warp markers, I have never found a track that needs more than 2.

I always put the first on the first beat and the last right at the end.
I may then have to start the track from -16, -32 etc. if I want to include the intro, but never more than two markers.

If you add more you can start to get that nasty warble sound.


I you also then exporting your edit as a new wav?

Also, have you set markers in Rekordbox?
You really need to do this to take advantage of what the 2000's offer.
