Three-time world surfing champion Andy Irons, 32, has died...

The disturbing news is now hitting the wires. Three-time world surfing champion Andy Irons, 32, has passed away.

While the details have yet to be confirmed, Irons reportedly was flying home from the Rip Curl Pro in Puerto Rico after contracting Dengue Fever shortly after arriving.

Irons' plan was reportedly to recover and get ready for the upcoming Triple Crown, but during a layover in Dallas he was reportedly told he was too ill to board the plane.

While unconfirmed, reports are that he apparently passed away in his hotel in Dallas.

The shocking news of his untimely death reached his home island of Kauai HI. earlier this morning, and began spreading like wildfire.

It's now rocking the entire surf world.

Irons is best known for being the biggest threat to Kelly Slater. He undoubtedly inspired the world champion to come out of retirement back in 2003. After Irons nabbed his first world title in in 2002, Slater decided to return to full time competition in 2003. The two surfers clashed in an epic battle that came down to the Irons posed the first serious threat to his legacy.

Calls to the ASP and his primary sponsors at Billabong have gone unanswered, but his death has been confirmed by family members who have links to Surfer Magazine.

There's obviously much more to come on this story. Stay tuned for full details. R.I.P. Andy Irons

                              Autopsy report released...

The autopsy concludes that Andy died a natural death from a sudden cardiac arrest due to a severe blockage of a main artery of the heart. Dr. Vincent Di Maio, a prominent forensic pathologist in San Antonio, TX, who has consulted on many high-profile cases, was asked to review and explain the autopsy results to the family.

He states: "This is a very straightforward case. Mr. Irons died of a heart attack due to focal severe coronary atherosclerosis, i.e., 'hardening of the arteries.' He had an atherosclerotic plaque producing 70%-80% narrowing of his anterior descending coronary artery. This is very severe narrowing. A plaque of this severity, located in the anterior descending coronary artery, is commonly associated with sudden death."

Dr. Di Maio continues: "The only unusual aspect of the case is Mr. Irons' age, 32 years old. Deaths due to coronary atherosclerosis usually begin to appear in the late 40's. Individuals such as Mr. Irons have a genetic predisposition to early development of coronary artery disease. In about 25% of the population, the first symptom of severe coronary atherosclerosis is sudden death." He concludes: "There were no other factors contributing to the death."
