    Volunteer Work

Who's done it? Where and what did you do to give back?

    cheers!

    I'll start:

*Built a house with Habitat for Humanity (age 12)
*Served food 5+ times at Coalition for the Homeless (age 15 - 30)
*Served food at Daily Bread Homeless Shelter multiple times (age 15 - 18 )
*Coached Little League Baseball at local YMCA (age 21)
*Knocked on Doors for city Commissioner campaign (age 30)
*Brought furniture blankets to homeless shelter on Christmas Eve (9 years old)

It was fun while it lasted...

you could put an Emfire release on for 2 minutes and you would be a sleep before it finishes - Chunky

it's RA. they'd blow their load all over some stupid 20 minute loop of a snare if it had a quirky flange setting. - Tiddles

Am I somewhere....in the corners of your mind....

I was just joking I have volunteered

I taught baseball to kids in a free baseball camp for people who couldn't afford it for 3 summers
I volunteered at FireFest one summer to raise money for firemen

there's more I just can't think of it off the top of my head.

            Re: Volunteer Work

I volunteered with an organisation called Childline here in Ireland, which provides a basic telephone counselling service for kids under 18 years old. Was a volunteer for 1.5 years, then became a member of staff for another 1.5 years, where I helped train and supervise other volunteers. Loved every minute of it.......

I heard some exceptionally sad stories though.

It was because of this work, I ended up working as a psychotherapist

I suspect some day, I'll end up working for the Samaritans

I'm just thinking, I'd love to get back into doing volunteer work again........

There is so much out there

Just thinking, didn't expect to see this in the politics thread - nearly missed it

Antananarivo, Madagascar: For chocolate lovers, the April mission to Madagascar by Dr. Jane Leland (U.S.A.) and Mr. Walter Waibel (Switzerland) of Kraft Foods, under the UNV corporate/private sector scheme, must seem like a dream come true. But it was not a dream. Their real assignment was to go to this beautiful tropical country for two weeks to improve the quality of chocolate production and develop new chocolate products for the local JB Company. Jane had come from Chicago, where she leads strategic taste programmes within Kraft’s Global Research, Development and Quality section. Walter had come from Lörrach, Germany, where he is a product developer within Kraft Food Europe’s Research and Development team in its Chocolate Continental Europe section.
