2 major plane manufacturers are grabbing the market.

      Embreer (sp?) & airbus.

The long-term plan is to build entirely new double-decker gates so that both levels are boarded simultaneously. The major international airports that would be hosting this plane need to do a lot of work to accomodate something quite so large. This means new runways, new gates, new jetways, etc.

Initially I think this plane will do amazing things for cargo shipping. Time will tell which of the two giant manufacturers' gambles pays off. Boeing is counting on more medium-haul flights and is working on medium-haul models (like the 7E7 Dreamliner), while Airbus seems to think it's all about the big-ticket globe-trotting traveler. I kinda hope they both succeed. There really hasn't been anything ground-breaking in civil aviation since the Concorde.

Speaking of ugly planes...here's the Airbus 300-600ST transport plane:

I've seen it flying myself, and couldn't believe my eyes.

Boeing vs. Airbus. Airbus are betting that high capacity is wanted more in the future than what Boeing thinks is more smaller planes with greater range and more frequent flights.
Hmm.. I wouldn't mind more flights, less layover time.
Bigger planes take up more space and less convenient to land in a crowded terminal space, but it's definitely nice to be able to get more leg room.

I'll bet Boeing is right, if you have one small plane down, that's only say a couple hundred seats, you have one huge plane down for anything and that's 800 seats gone, ooops... I'd rather have a fleet of small effecient planes that can do the job of several huge planes.

I saw a program about this on the learning channel a while back and they had only showed the first part up to where they finally got the parts and were getting ready to put them together and I never saw a second part to the program. I would've loved to have saw how they put this thing together. It's huge, and I'm sure the people of the cities nearby where they do assembly are not very happy about this.
