Believe me, the airlines won't put gyms, casinos and restaurants in the A380 ? although there might be a bar and a shop. Most airlines are cash-strapped and these planes will be about carrying as many people as possible, around 500 with a three configuration plane. First class will be the bees knees but will, of course, cost. Charter planes will, naturally, ram more people in.

Apparently, they're also more environmentally-friendly than other planes as well ? believe that if you will.

Boeing opted for a smaller jet ? the 7E7 Dreamliner ? for the future but Airbus have already announced its going to compete with the A350. Both seating around 250 people.

Given that the jumbo is 36 years old this year, it's about time there was something new

Boeing vs. Airbus. Airbus are betting that high capacity is wanted more in the future than what Boeing thinks is more smaller planes with greater range and more frequent flights.
Hmm.. I wouldn't mind more flights, less layover time.
Bigger planes take up more space and less convenient to land in a crowded terminal space, but it's definitely nice to be able to get more leg room.

I'll bet Boeing is right, if you have one small plane down, that's only say a couple hundred seats, you have one huge plane down for anything and that's 800 seats gone, ooops... I'd rather have a fleet of small effecient planes that can do the job of several huge planes.

1) The market is probably aimed toward the Middle East and Asian areas first because of the high volume of travellers in that region

2) Boeing has more fatalities than Airbus could dream of, thus why this feat was taken. If airbus knew that their planes sucked, they wouldn't have undergone this project.

3) Boeing is by far jealous, considering that 5/7 aircraft in the fleet of most airlines use the Airbus A series.

Your right abouth the gyms and casino, I really doubt it'll happen. Remember the old Boeing ads where you saw things advertising similuar novalties, I have yet to see such a configuration (except on some of the planes built for Middle Eastern guys with loads of cash).

We've looked into building a super jumbo before but didn't see the market for it. After all it would be much easier for us to build it since we already have the 47, development costs would be considerably lower. Instead we opted for a smaller more fuel efficient plane. Most people want a reasonable priced flight, rather than casinos and gyms on board. With the new Airbus you have more weight, more drag, lower altitude flights which all add to more fuel. Boeing is building the 7E7 (787) which will be built from composites (I have a really great picture here but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post it). This will allow the plane to be lighter, fly higher, faster and more fuel efficiently. Also keep in mind that now you don't have corrosion issues that you do with aluminum skin, so less maintence costs in that area. All these should enable the airlines to either profit more and/or reduce ticket prices.

Localizer- I think you figure of 5/7 is a bit off. Secondly also keep in mind that Airbus can sell planes at a lower cost because of Govt. subsidies and also due to the fact that they build a one for all model for all their customers. Boeing builds planes in custom configurations based on customer demands, Airbus just sells them from the parking lot.

A380-800 - Max cruising speed M 0.88. Long range cruising speed M 0.85. Range 14,800km (8,000nm). Service ceiling 43.000ft (13,100m).
A380-800F - Range 10,370km (5,600nm).

.88 mach is about 550 knots TAS prob at 0 celcius and with a service ceiling of 43k feet, i'd say they'd prob cruise at normal flight lvl 36. Only fight you may see between boeing and airbus is fuel efficiency and and range.

"149 firm orders (including 27 freighters) by January 2005. Airbus has forecast a market for approx 1235 airliners of 400 seats and above through to 2020. First deliveries in early 2006."

Guess Boeing should hurry up?
