1. Slam - Metro Noir
2. Slam - Variance (Adam Beyer & Jesper Dahlback Remix)
After the release of the massive Hot Knives Remix EP and Slam’s stately second outing on Drumcode with Cacophony, the boys return with their menacing Metro Noir track and Adam Beyer & Jesper Dahlback’s champion take on the Slam’s Variance. The original Variance release received mammoth feedback from Techno’s top guns and Beyer & Dahlback secure the same again with a masterful twist on the original.
Slam brings a very dark and ominous original to the EP, keeping things understated but incredibly effective. Heavily effected percussion starts the track with a grainy quality that sets the tone for an equally dark synth line. Their now trademark high-pitched synth hovers into the breaks building tension and unease, while tickling hi-hats splash in with gusto. This all leads into the main break where the track is disrobed to only the main synth, which is mashed through some very sharp reverbs and delays. Kicking back in, Slam show what they do best; jack the floor.
Adam Beyer and Jesper Dalhback keep the groove of the original without taking things in a heavy direction. It retains its swing and soul with the original vocal cuts and offbeat bass, but is kept stripped to the bones, as the Paragraph way entails. Lifted with brilliantly crafted percussion and driving rhythm, the Swedes handle the remix very delicately and the result is a wonderfully deep techno work out.
