No, it doesn't have to be 2000 by the end of the month

I guess with 40,000 members, I would have liked to see more than fifteen members having contributed more than three artists. Call me crazy, but the thought of 10,000 members each submitting one artist seemed a realistic goal considering how passionate most of us are for the music--especially since it's just a one-time activity.

Please don't get me wrong here... I'm not bitching about anybody, and if it sounds that way I don't mean it to. I just want to make sure that enough of us have taken the time to make our first project a success before I start to drive us toward another!

Again i hear what you're saying mate but there aren't 40,000 members really are there? That number includes the chinese ugg boot men and nigerian wives for sale etc etc.
10,000 each submitting 1 isn't realistic let's be honest, neither is 1000 members doing 10 each.
Are there really 10,000 djs worth listing?


A lot of the numbers that come through here are just after some music and away they go, some have signed up and never come back, maybe some don't care for the music at all and like the community, some only like sasha and digweed, etc etc.

It's like writing to everyone in the country and asking them for a pound for a charity. Quite a few will give you a pound, a couple may well give you £10 but a good percentage will throw your letter on the fire. That doesn't mean you aren't doing the right thing.

I need at least 3 months before I could make a working product. Maybe everyone can help start thinking about things that we need to profile for each label so I don't miss anything.

I'm not frustrated with the number of entries we have so far... what gets me is that only one-twentieth of one percent of our members have even attempted to add an artist.

I'll start working on a Label DB. If anybody wants to be a beta tester, send me a PM and I'll figure out how to make it happen. 90% of the time I spent created the DJDB was troubleshooting/researching/learning/testing/etc the 10+ different programming languages I had to write it in. Now that I have something working I should be able to reuse a bunch of code and bust out a working Label DB in a month or so.

Maybe also include a section around "status" e.g. Active, Defunct etc. I think you've included everything else

4 hours later and 500 lines of code re-used, I think I've finally managed to get the database ready for labels. I loaded one in the backend and it seems I'm able to view/update it from the new code. Give me more time to test... once I'm confident with it, I'll start writing code to let us tag artists toward the roster. Once that's done I'll write code that allows new submissions.

I finished the code that lets us tag artists to a label's roster. See below for some examples:
