All of this calling for Assange's death reminds me of the Bill Hicks Just A Ride Quote

With Manning, Greenwald adopts the polar opposite opinions. “Journalists should be about disclosing facts, not protecting anyone.” This dissonance in his views has only grown in the wake of reports that Manning might be offered a plea deal in exchange for testimony against Assange.

Testimony against Assange for what? He hasn't done anything illegal in the US. Manning is different though. I'm guessing he signed the US version Official Secrets Act which he would be guilty of breaking. But then is he serving the US Government or the US people. Government he did the wrong thing, if it's the people he did the right thing.

The gov't is trying to prosecute him under the Espionage Act since I think they are trying to prove that he acted in collusion with Manning to publish the documents. And also basically that he is not a journalist since they are publishing everything they get instead of weighing weather the public need outweighs the risk of releasing what they do. It is how they are trying to get around the First Amendment which is pretty bad.

It will be interesting to see how they prove it. It could be argued that it's all in the public need. Also if they can prove that they haven't released everything they could always release more now proving that they hadn't released everything. As far as the risk go's, I doubt more ot less people have been killed as a result of the releases, its more a case of a lot of people have been embarrassed. Nothing has really changed

I remember a few years back a major newspaper wanted to expose the names of british solders who had committed crimes while working undercover in the IRA. The government managed prevent the story ever being published, which I would say they had reasonable grounds. However wikileaks has done nothing near this.

Its going to make for a real interesting year. First they have to get him out of the UK then they have to get him out of Sweden, then they have to put hin on trial in the US. it's going to be hard to push as Assange did not work for the US government, has no known links to foreign governments, and operates on the internet, by all accounts far from US soil. The US Government has only ever tried this once before back in 2005 and they lost.
