So, should I waste more time on this or what? Would you guys use them? If so, what would be useful?

I'm still new to creating gadgets but from the sounds of things I'm probably going to have to change this URL in a few months so I can let you customize the widget. I'm going to spend my time learning the creation of the customizable widgets with the DJDB Subscriptions widget... once I get that one knocked out, I'll revisit this one and add more stuff like only showing your favorite artists or possibly recommending new artists to you based on your likes.

UPDATE: This is the new, final URL: http://www.google.com/ig/adde?module...gle-artist.xml

Thanks picklemonkey! I use the GYY widget now and I just added the random artist. I would definitely add the other when it is available. Thanks!

What GYY widget? Is it just an RSS feed? If you want to put the DJDB Subscriptions up, you can also do it as an iGoogle RSS feed now that I have added RSS functionality (last week). Grab your personalized RSS URL from the icon at the Artists Subscriptions section of your [ms] homepage.

How about latest Facebook/Twitter/MySpace updates from your favorite artists being displayed right on iGoogle and MercuryServer?

Yes I use the RSS feed as my gadget. I've been using it for quite sometime now and works like a champ. I get just a little bit of information and then when I am at home I use RSSOwl on the home workstation.

Anybody else using this Random Artist iGoogle widget? what are your thoughts? is it something you can see yourself using longterm?

What other ideas should I implement? Not only just on the iGoogle front page, but on our front page?

Ok, I just made an update to this widget. This is the one update I was talking about that would change the URL and break the one you're using, so if you were using the old one you should delete it.

You can re-add the new one at the new URL:
Search the world's information, including webpages, images, videos and more. Google has many special features to help you find exactly what you're looking for.

This URL won't change again, it prevents you from needing to do that caching trick, it will always be the most up-to-date version when I release new changes, and it will enable me to allow each of you to customize the gadget to your own account once I write the code for it.
