You have subscribed to 70 artists and Ribbario to 21 "only" so I assume that's why he is not on your list. I guess you don't have that many subscriptions in common and there are at least 10 other members who have more.
The other day I renamed all occurrences of "Favorite Artists" and similar to "Subscribed Artists' or "My Artists." I just want to drive the fact that this is a tool to help us discover music, rather than a tool for us to make personal lists. Maybe one day, but that's far away considering what I have left
I understand that's how it works, I just think there would be a better way to connect with people based on rating the artists and not much just listing them as a favorite or not.
I do realize I have 70 artists selected, but what if I gave 20 of those artist a 4 to 5 star rating, then it would try to match those who have given the same artists a similar rating, and then move on down the list I've selected from there.
Don't get me wrong, I understand you just wanted to test it out and getting it up and running, and I think it's an awesome tool. But it's still version 1.0. Can't wait to see how you guys tweak it as we go along.
Before, it was counting up all members who was subscribed to any of your artists, then returned the top 10 members who were subscribed to the most number of your artists. This was my top 15, for example:
The problem with this (as a few of you have pointed out) was that it generally matched you up with the members who were subscribed to a large number of artists. I changed the matching a bit to return a weighted "likeness" ratio. To sum it up, it's loosely based on this pseudo-formula:
1. (number of artists you are both subscribed to) / (their total # of subscribed artists) = the % of their artists that you're subscribed to
2. (the % of their artists that you're subscribed to) * (number of artists you are both subscribed to) = weighted likeness
The new formula basically says, whoever has the highest percentage of their subscribed artists that match yours are the best match. I think the new matching is more accurate because it gives more meaning to those who have more subscribed artists, but it still considers those who have a lower number of subscribed artists. Here's my top 15 on the new formula for reference:
One other note, I plan on changing this widget on the front page to include a bunch of random stats, not just like-minded members. Over expect a bunch of different stats to show up there
