Re: Electronica Article in NY Times
thought the article was well written with good information. i like the sounds of the 80s and rock being used with dance music.
for those being critical, he couldn't include everything that everyone wanted because the article would be huge.Never interrupt your enemy when he's making a mistake - Napoleon BonaparteComment

They're definitely up to date with the new trend of 80's and early 90's influences in EDM; very surprised to see that in the new york times....
The article's a pretty good reflection of how shitty club culture has gotten here in new york and i'm sure in other places too. Definitely an interesting read.Comment

I, for one, am a huge advocate for the dark gritty clubs and booming sound systems. Those low key clubs are what filter out the commoner from the passionate. Once we filter out the commoner, we're left with either the binge druggy or the one that loves the music, and that's where my aim is.Many people would sooner die than think; In fact, they do so.

Interesting article and great comments by everyone.
I think the article missed another important aspect of today's EDM with the growth of internet radio stations. Like others have already said, its the passionate people with no aim at commercialization that are taking EDM into the future and I think much of that can be credited to the internets ability to bring us together from all corners of the world.

What day was this? I want to cut it out of the paper itself and tape it to my wall like I do with the other NY Times articles they wrote about electronic music.
The two other electronic music articles from NY Times were from a couple of years ago. One was about using new technology in clubs and stuff, and has a picture of SASHA DJing. The other is titled something like "On Board With The Godfathers of Techno and a Long, Steady Pulse" and it's an interesting read on the pioneers of techno. My Top 5 Tunes Of The Moment:
Beckers - Fake (Greg Churchill Remix)
4Mal - Twilight
Formulate - The Voice Of Qi
Mat Leutwyler & Jason Suzuki - The Contended Gastronome (Kosmas Epsilon Remix)

At this point in time it's hard to describe any general trend in electronic music as a whole, simply because electronic music has become so huge, in terms of numbers of subgenres and DJs. The stuff he writes about doesn't even apply to our (Sasha/Digweed/Prog) scene.Comment

and isn't IDM dance music too?
the scene's more healthy than ever, its just that the people making and putting out the music arent making money.
