This has nothing to do with the Medium, it just comes down to a DJ being lazy or not. Just because a DJ is playing with Traktor doesn't mean he's not going to dig to find those rare gems out there.

I'll admit it, I have about 30,000 tunes I've downloaded from a private torrent site in 2010, and I listen to every single one. A lot, and I mean A LOT, of it is garbage, but at the same time there's a lot of artists I never would have found other wise who I have now added to my list on Beatport so I get updates when they have new stuff come out and buy their stuff then.

I didn't say anything about anyone being lazy did I?

if that's what I implied, it's not what I meant

          Re: All Vinyl Dj Sets

I've been collecting vinyl for over 10 years now, and I will continue to do so. Unfortunately it's becoming increasingly difficult to do so with so many record shops going out of business. Showing up to the record shop that I grew up going to and seeing it's windows shuttered was a really shitty thing. I try to buy recent releases that I really love on vinyl, but it's hard if not impossible, so being able to play currently material is getting to be a real pain in the ass, aside from just the cost. Obviously though, I'm not suggesting that the only music worth playing are recent releases.

I totally understand, and to a certain extent sympathize with, the anti-digital/pro-analogue backlash some DJs feel, but at the same time, digital DJing has fundamentally altered what it means to be involved with the music whether you like it or not.

But anyways, I prefer to go with both at the same time:

Then why would you specifically say that a vinyl DJ would take time and effort to search for tunes while a digital DJ just "Point, Click, Download"?

And dude! You have a SH-101! That's a bad ass little synth. Doesn't do much, but for it does, it does well.

That is pretty funny actually, but who knows what "software" issues she's having? Could have something to do with the recording software, or maybe she tried loading it into Ableton after recording to add gentle compression and limiting on it to make it sound more coherent?

I see what you're saying and that's not how it was meant to come out.. buying vinyl costs more, takes longer to arrive, more difficult to come across these days.. I didn't mean to say if you download tracks you aren't putting effort forth, of course you are, I do it daily

I don't know, just caught me as funny since we're having this convo about dj's alerting us when they use vinyl and then I see that post, lol

doesn't it depersonalize the music though? i mean, in all seriousness, you are just pointing and clicking. sometimes you skim through a track really fast, sometimes you just let it play. but still, the ease of scrolling through online music sites is nothing close to the investment (time/money/emotion) in diggin through crate after crate of vinyl .

With out a doubt, I won't deny that. Tracks are just more like tools and functional now a days. They usually have a shelf life of 3 months before they are considered "old" and you have to find a new tool to replace it. There really isn't much "music" left in "dance music" these days to be honest as well. And there isn't anything wrong with that in my opinion, just how things have evolved.

I know, and it is funny. I'm just thinking about all the other things that could have gone wrong software wise.

Before..when I used Beatport alot, I would literally fall asleep searching for tracks. page after page, click after click, granted I was able to obtain stuff I would never have of on vinyl but going through hundreds of pages and finding nothing at 2am...well it took a toll.

I've gone back to those mp3 purchases that I considered "gems" and grabbed the vinyl. Why? Because I rather have it on vinyl.

To me, certain tracks require the vinyl medium instead of the digital copy. I feel that if I own the actual vinyl Im saving it (don't know from what lol) but it is it's original source...its "birth" if you will and I'll be damned if its thrown out or tossed in a crate never to be touched again while its evil clone is out there having fun.. fuck that shit!
