Typed this from BPM mag that i got today...
Steve Lawler saysa recent gig in guadalajara, mexico got anstier than the bottom of a bottle of mescal when a man handed him a high-bpm record to spin. The track - appraently Elascticman's 2001 hard-trance anthem "Dance With The Devil" - wouldn't fit into his deep, tribal set, and he declined the offer. He says he was then threatened to play it or get off the decks. when he chose to walk away, he was blocked by bouncers who made him finish the last hour of his 3 hour gig, which he did
"I was very worried for my g/f and had to doas they adi," Lawler said in a statement, adding that he'll never return to Guadalajara. "Thjis was a very scary incident that i never want to be in again."
Chris Lawrence (who we don't give a shit about) subsequently cancelled a scheduled gig at Club Space, part of his Unhooked tour, as a resul of the incident, according to his publicist. The club, which expressed it's "deepest regrets" over the dispute, satated the track in question was part of a one-song act by a wellknown performer called Apached. The man who tried to beef Lawler into playin git was part of Apache's crew, not from the club. But when Lawler walked off, two of the venue's co-owners along with its general manager and security chief did indeed stop him to urge him to finish his set after Apache's turn, according to a Club Space statement.
"In the heat of the moment the club owner may have appeared to be upset or angry while asking Lawler to come to a means wit his contract, but none of these 4 people nor anybody else made any threats against him or to the people with him," the club stated in a an email to gay BPM. "If Lawler at any point felt he was in danger, if there was any misinterpretation on his behalf that made him feel this way, we do apologize.
