Sasha voted into the Top Ten DJ's of all time

    SASHA

"He has a presence, an X Factor"

Although he may hate it, Sasha's 'Son of God' Mixmag cover in 1994 marked the day the 'Superstar DJ' was born. Many have followed in his path since then, but only a handful of the first 'Super' generation are still traversing the globe and playing the world's biggest gigs to this day like he is.

Sasha has been in touch with Mixmag to thank everyone who voted for him in the poll to find the Greatest DJ Of All Time. The DJ was voted at number 8 in the final results.

He said “ When it comes to dance music, everyone has a different viewpoint that comes from personal experience. My ‘greatest DJs of all time’ will always be the Haįienda DJs; Mike Pickering, Graeme Park and especially Jon Da Silva, who not only introduced me to this scene but taught me so much about DJing. While i thought it was an impossible task to create a poll for something so hard to quantify i am very humbled to be among such esteemed company in this top ten. The guys around me are all legends.”

On February 12th Sasha will be in Australia to perform at the Good Vibrations Festival with, amongst others, Faithless and Phoenix.

This release was mastered direct from vinyl at the request of the DJ and as such features natural sound characteristics of this medium such as record surface noise.

The whole list was poor. Everyone knows Jimmy Savile is the greatest DJ of all time.

lol at this list...and also are they predicting that edm is on extinction or something because to have a poll of all time it should only be done when something is about to finish .

That's the part of the interview that stood out for me as well... and you're right they are rare nowadays.

i'm not the slightest bit surprised by the fact that despite all this new technology, the quality of mixing (done now on laptops, mostly) has gone down. such mixing as mentioned above is rare, and that, imo, is a tragedy.
you could put an Emfire release on for 2 minutes and you would be a sleep before it finishes - Chunky

^^^ seeing Sasha and Digweed tag on 1200's riding mixes for 2-3 minutes.. you honestly can't tell where one track begins and the other one ends.. DELTA HEAVY!
I'll have to upload that mix some day

having said that, a lot of it has to do with the way tracks are made today, you rarely see the 9-10 minute track where you can ride a mix for that long, with out looping it, which gets a bit repetitive. Also, they were playing quite a few tracks made especially for them on acetate, never to be released

                            This.

Technically, there are no excuses for NOT doing long mixes, what with Ableton and Traktor, and there ARE still guys doing it that, itīs just that the type of music thatīs most heard out there these days doesnīt lend itself to that type of mixing so well.

Personally, thatīs always been the way I like to mix and Iīll keep doing it as much as I can, in whatever style I play. People immediately notice if you come from a prog-house background if you do long mixes.

Tracks just aren't made to be layered these days. Too much beats and sounds but not enough melodies. Sometimes you hear an attempt at it and sonically it's just a mess.
