I'm talking about all governments now. In Canada we just got this new notice saying we are getting metered for our internet usage. Basically to expect our internet bill to double if not triple. I am so sick of Governments I cant say it enough. GET THE FUCK OUT OF OUR BUSINESS YOU FUCKING NAZI FUCKERS!!!! I hope someone in the government reads this. I don't care anymore.

The term "ATDHE" was trending on Twitter late on Tuesday as users tweeted their disappointment and concern over discovering the website was no longer up and running. "scary stuff when govnmnt [sic] can just take your domain," tweeted Jason Calacanis.

ok, great, so what's the problem here? the government cracked down on sites broadcasting material illegally. new sites popped up. i watched the end of the suns/thunder game on one last night. I remember watching world cup games on iraqgoals.net and that got shut down. Who cares. New ones pop up. The government has been fighting this crap since the the internet became widely available to the general population.

i thought it would be fairly clear that the problem is the waste of money, time, and resources our government consumes.

IMO....i they're going to shut down these sites they need to...

1) have a solid case against the proprietors/owners of the sites - to expedite the prosecution
2) they need seek an injunction against the proprietors (i'm not sure if it is possible to keep them from opening sites in foreign countries though, and i'm not sure if they sought it in this case)
3) post a notice that all IP's who arrive at the shut down websites are being recorded. (though i don't think that will stop proxies)

that said, the prosecution of such crimes seems to be an awful waste given the likelihood that such acts and websites can't be stopped unless the government takes total control of the internet. i'm not saying such crimes shouldn't be prosecuted, but there should be more efficient means with which to do so. spending 50k to shut down a website for 2 hours seems like waste to me? but i'm quite certain the cost was considerably greater.

and, on a side note, the criminal nature of producing such websites pales in great comparison to other legitimate threats the united states faces. that's just my opinion though.

well ya, i don't disagree with you. I think it's a complete waste of time. I think it's absurd. But in the end, the site was illegal and they caught them. C'est la vie.
