Exploring the fertile ground between house and techno styles, the deep, percussive progressions from Montrealer Chris Hreno exude exactly the patience and restraint required to make a minimal groove work for a long time.Turned on at age 11 by turntables, Hreno moved on to bass guitar in his teens and finally his own studio productions. An early 2001 EP had him co-producing with The Mole and in 2004 he issued a 12” in the “Starchy Roots” series alongside names like Akufen, Mathew Jonson, Deadbeat and Jay Haze. Before relocating to Europe in 2007, he had already started to move from behind the decks and into the realm of live performance, blending analogue sensibilities and sounds with his own productions, on the fly.
